I run mine 24/7 with no issues. I sometimes run it in Turbo mode, but mostly in the lowest speed, especially when I'm working near it. No problems. If you run it intermittently, the filters should require less frequent replacement or cleaning.

Answer:
Yes, it can be turned on all the time. I only turn mine on if I smell an odd odor. I use it about three times a week and only run it till the odor is gone, approximately 30 minutes. As with most mechanical units, the less you use it the longer it will last. This air cleaner works very well.

I run mine 24/7 because my wife has asthma and I have allergies to grass, weed, and tree pollen. I recall reading (perhaps in the user manual) it is recommended to turn the unit off if no one will be home, so each time we go out we shut it down.

Answer:
I was also curious about this because the Plasmawave technology was new to me. I have a proprietary ozone detector I built for a project for my work. It did not detect any substantial amounts of ozone as compared with "normal ambient" air. I live in Los Angeles, so ozone levels are slightly higher than less congested areas. That said, I don't think this unit produces any significant amounts of ozone.

Answer:
Don't know the db. but you can't hear it on low (#1). #2 is drowned out by the tv. It's a pleasant background noise that you have to listen for. #3 louder but very effective at clearing out odors quickly. Turbo is as loud as other fans at their top setting. Turbo is great for a quick clean of the air at parties.

Yes it does come with a remote control, although I've never used them (I have 3 of the units). It allows control functions like manual setting of the fan speed, but I just leave them in auto as they sense air quality and ramp fan speed up or down as needed.

Easy as pie to set up, pull out of box read quick set directions. Prepare filters, and turn on. Must be placed in certain locations to work at its best but, no big deal. Very quite, (unless you need a quick air cleaning on turbo) even then it I very tolerable. The sneezing associated with the air in the house has all but gone away. (This in less than a one month) Price is mid range in comparison with others, very lightweight, not as small as others, considering the job it must do that's ok in my opinion. will be buying another shortly for the other room. In conclusion, would Highly Recommend.

I was apprehensive, but it is very quiet running and does clean the air. I live in a small townhouse and have a basset hound. I run this on the first floor -living room, dining room and kitchen area, and the pet odor is definitely better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from JS Review - 5500 Washable True-HEPA Air Cleaner with PlasmaWave Technology Actually planning on buying a couple more. Running it on Auto Mode is the best. The Air Quality Sensor decides when and how much air flow rate is needed. When the air quality is bad the light turns to orange to red. I have an old house so during summer I have multiple window air conditioners running. For months I had a bad spontaneous cough in the house . Did everything from shop vacuuming with dust bag to spray sanitizing the walls and floors. Thanks to this air purifier and my weather app I figured out that it was the outdoor mold spore level. Now every time I cough I look at the Air Quality sensor light and it is orange to red (100 % hit rate). Within less than 5 mins the air quality light is green again. While 1 air cleaner is sufficient for the first floor (350 SQ FT) I plan on having 2 in the 1st floor and 1 more upstairs. It runs so super quite that I am ready to toss my UV light air cleaner (4 yrs old)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more coughing and sneezing! We have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 parrots. Allergies? I didn't think so until about 6 months ago when I started coughing, sneezing, waking up with a stuffy head. Symptoms had gotten worse to the point that I was concerned we might need to rehome our pets. A friend with asthma recommended an air purifier, and after a ton of research I purchased a Winix 5500. To say it's life changing is so true. From the first 30 minutes after plugging it in, the air smells fresh and clean. Stuffy nose is gone. Sneezing is gone. I'm still coughing a bit but every day gets better. I love this machine so much I ordered another for my bedroom. The hepa filter is washable in the sink up to 6 times, with a 3 year lifespan. It comes with 4 charcoal pre filters that you change about every 3 months. The plasma wave helps to kill bacteria and viruses. It's very quiet. Super easy to set up and use. I like the remote that lets me change settings easily. I have also noticed far less dust on the furniture which must mean it's being caught in the Winix.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hepa !!!! Recently purchased 2 of these Winix 5500 Hepa air cleaners. They perform great at an awesome price. Has improved my allergies tremendously. They have a sensor and detect odors which automatically increases in speed till the air quality is corrected.
