Don't follow the instructions exactly. The size drill bit should be 9/16 not 5/8. Also put the hole 1/16 closer to the door than the instructions say. This makes it a lot tighter and more secure.

I recently suffered a burglary and have been buying a lot of door hardware. The quality/price of the door club has impressed me most.
The install was a little tricky for me since my floor has a medium plush carpet rather than bare floors. You need to drill a 3/4" hole for the main post insert 2" out from the door. There is an optional square (with hole in center) plate you can screw to the floor to reinforce plywood for example. I cut an x in the carpet to drill the main hole, but the instruction say pull up the carpet to screw the square plate to the underlying wood. I didn't feel like going through the process of detaching and repairing the carpet, so I placed the plate on top of the carpet and screwed through the carpet to the wood beneath. Since the plate has the antique finish, it looks fine and since the screws are long, it's still solid. Just make sure your door has enough clearance to open.
The other challenge was guessing the best place to drill. They recommend 2" but there was play both in the post hole and my door jam. I wanted the club to be snug against my door so that it resists simultaneously with the door latch rather than having the door kicked in breaking the latch and then hitting the door club. The problem is that if you drill too close, you won't be able to insert the club.
I ended up drilling at the safe 2", but for a snug fit, I added a wooden shim between the door and the included brass strike plate.
Also, it's not obvious from the description, but the club can be placed in two orientations. One way is snug against the door, and the other allows the door to be opened a few inches like a hotel safety latch.
My only complaint was the packaging. It seems like Home Depot was selling somebody else's overstock. The packaging looked like it had been on the shelf for 5 years, the plastic clam shell was brittle and coming apart, the included super glue was solid and a fresher tube was taped to the packaging.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by supert Great product. More secured feeling.
Wanted to secure my door and so I read up on different ways to do just that. There are many door ideas out there to prevent door kick in's. The Door Club seemed like the best way to go and Home Depot had the lowest prices. So I ordered 2. I received the box during the work week and waited for the weekend to tackle the job. Once I opened the card board box, I noticed the antique brass finishes on each Door Clubs were scratched and appeared worn in some areas. And I hadn't even opened the sealed clear plastic packaging! When I did open both, sure enough, both were scratched in areas and appeared worn. I figured if I returned them I might get the same quality. And since the Door Club only comes in 2 finishes (that's a drawback), I will have them powdered coated to match my interior hardware at a later date. My installation for me was to drill through my Pergo floor and then into concrete. First I began with the installation of the 'lock', where I used a 3/4" butterfly bit to start the hole in the Pergo floor, then on with the 3/4" concrete bit to a depth of about 2 3/4". I also had a trim piece on my Pergo that was half way in the center where I drilled. So I had to use my Dremel to cut and router out so the 'floor insert' would fit flush. Basically I followed the directions and both Door Club's installed in a matter of hours since I had to do some extra work. These appear solid and I feel more secure when I leave my house in the daytime. The added plus that I can use the Door Club in two ways. First is to have it turned in the lock position so the bar is next to the door and the door cannot be opened. The second feature is that I can turn the bar around so the door will open only approximately 2 inches and I can visually see who is at my door without them trying to push their way into my home. Great product.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by BevAnn Easy Enough Install for a Woman
I have hardwood floors and found it easy enough to install. As a woman, It did take me several hours to figure it out and install it. One tip: Hang the door hanging device (device you hang it on when the club is not in use) several inches higher than the the club itself so you can easily see at a quick glance if its in the secure position or in the not being used position. I have used this for 4 years and will be installing this on our new house when it is finally finished.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by DrWayne Provides great sense of protection
I have been using this product for many years. (We now have three) I bought it because it appeared to be the best affordable and formidable protection for my two young girls when they were home alone or when we were gone on vacation. After two decades, I still believe it's the best protection we might have, so we still trust our lives to the Door Club and recommend it highly.
