What means wired? Thx

Asked by: Mark
It takes 120 VAC into the transformer to power it up and has a wire running to the door bell button .

Does it come with wiring? How many feet?

Planning to install where there is no doorbell. I want the chime, but will also install a Ring Pro doorbell.
Asked by: Grev
Hi, no this does not come with wire. I used thermostat wire since I could not find door bell wire. Thermostat wire can hold 140 volts ac and door bell kits run 14 to 24 volts ac.

Is this a mechanical door bell or speaker? Does the transformer push 16 volts or higher?

Asked by: Keith
It's mechanical. The transformer is 16 volts.

If you wanted to drive 2 bells (one inside/one backyard) with one transformer and switch, can this be done?
Asked by: Cris
You will need another bell. But yes you can tie in the 2nd bell in to the same button.

Wired Door Bell Contractor Kit is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't forget the wire if you need it. contractors kit door bell shipped in a box with no packing, it can slide around like this and get damaged. but on the funny side when I picked up the shipping box it made the ding dong sound. also on the funny side this says on it its a contractors kit, yet on the front of the box it says ' no tools included and assembly required ' what it does not say is ' wire not included' now most people would have to expect it does not include tools how ever since it is a wired door bell kit some people might expect it to include the wire. also odd is it includes a instruction manual, I have purchased contractors grade every thing in the past from electrical outlets to linear florescent light fixtures and the big difference between consumer grade and contractors grade is consumer grade includes the instructions, contractors grade is a plain non descriptive box with no instructions. then on top of that the instructions say ' bell wire not included ' but their so far in the box that by the time you get to them you would have to know no wire is included, unless it is invisible. and for a new installation your going to need more then just bell wire. both switches need to be wired, the bell and the transformer it self to power. The instructions do include a wiring diagram, so if your unsure relax they tell you how to wire the system. this kit would seem to be more of a rebuild kit for people with broken existing door bells. since for new construction you would have to know how to wire this simple product up and that it does not include tools or wire. so what does it include you ask, well a bell unit, a transformer, mounting hardware and 2 door bell buttons. so now installation if you have a existing system it is vary easy as your just replacing your old parts with new parts that connect to the same wires. if its for new house install, you connect it to the wires the electricians ran for the door bell system. if you have a old house with no door bell system, then you have a lot of drilling to do, wires to run and hang. On the box it says it has 2 tunes, how ever you can not select between 2 different sounds it simply means the back door and front door do not sound the same when you ring the door bell.

I am very pleased with this product.  The kit includes most of what you'll need to install a wired doorbell--the only thing missing is the bell wire.  It is decent quality, though the switches are pretty basic.  I had an obnoxious brass doorbell receiver that was an eyesore so when I found this unit I purchased it for the receiver alone.  Comparable receivers are priced considerably higher so I was quite pleased with the price.  I kept the transformer and the two switches in the event I need them for future projects.  The receiver--on the other hand--was easy to install and sounds fantastic.  More than this, it looks fantastic.  The color is neutral and it blends in seamlessly with my entry wall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just like my 1978 model I'm so glad homedepot had this simple inexpensive door bell. I took my 1978 one down because it was unattractive like dirty yellow/white well this new one fit great and it is pretty. I didn't want any fancy electronically kind either. This has a ding/dong sound,a little metal hits a bar simple right. I didn't need to use the transformer I just took the two wires that were in my wall and hooked them to the screws on the doorbell. Nice and easy because either wire work on the transformer and front door wiring screws.

Perfect replacement for my non-functional, 15 year old Broan 973sb doorbell. I only needed to replace the chime box. It was the same size as the original one. Took only 5 minutes and a screwdriver to switch out the old and install the new. I can now hear the UPS guy when he delivers packages. Bring on the trick-or-treaters!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great kit! Door bell was fairly easy to install. Instructions were a little difficult to read for an average person like myself (reason for 4 stars). All you need with this kit is electrical wires to complete install. The doorbell looks nice and works great. The ding is the perfect loudness. I can hear it throughout house without being overly distracting. Great for when you want to ignore the neighbors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good and quick replacement I was worried about this product. There were no reviews and the other "no name brand" kit sold by Home Depot for $19.99 had really bad reviews. But I bought this one anyway expecting it to be terrible. I was replacing just the chime unit that was originally installed in my home in 2007 by the home builder. That unit was made by NuTone. This unit was actually the exact same size - even the screw holes lined up. Install was easy and the unit worked just as well as the original. No fuss. Even the chime holes where the same size which was good. I wound up using the chimes from my original unit because they were ever-so-slightly louder than the ones that came with this package. I did not use any of the other parts. The door bell buttons looked cheap and do not light up. All in all I am very happy with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice "Kit" If replacing an existing door bell,be aware that you may have to replace the transformer also. I bought it thinking I could just replace the chime, but my old transformer didn't have enough juice to correctly activate the chimes. It would ding but not dong. I replaced the transformer and all is working normal now. Nice unit for $13. Does what you need well.
