Questions & Answers

What is the serving size and what total price for serving size.

Asked by: Luis
A serving size in calories is 250 for the oatmeals, 180 for the soup and rice & beans, and 200 for the creamy veggie pasta. Whey milk is 80 calories per 8 ounce serving. 4 servings per pouch, 5 pouches. Plus one pouch of 14 servings of whey which can be used as a drink or added to the oatmeals. Divide it by the cost any way you see fit to get a per serving cost.

Customer Reviews

72 Hour Emergency Food Supply is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tasty and Convenient I really like the idea behind Wise Company's 72 Hour Emergency Food Supply. It is convenient for camping, backpacking, or in an emergency. There are a nice variety of entrees for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and easy to read labels and instructions for each packet. They also taste pretty good for pre-packaged entrees. However, as others have stated, it would be more convenient if each serving were packaged in an individual package, instead of 4 servings in each package. A smaller portion can be prepared, but then it loses its 25 year shelf life since the package has been opened. Still, it's an affordable solution for easy to make, tasty meals, or have an emergency food supply on hand

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good to have Here in western Oregon we are waiting for the big 9.0+ earthquake, but every region in the country has it's potential catastrophe that one should be prepared for. A emergency food supply for 72 hours is an absolute minimum to have, besides plenty of water. It has a very long shelf live, so you don't need to worry about it getting bad. The food comes in pouches with 4 servings each. I would have prefered 2 servings per pack, but it'll do. Preparing the food is easy, just add water and heat while stirring. The taste actually isn't as bad as you may expect. It's not gourmet restaurant quality, but it's not bad at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This should be advertised as 1 day for 3 people. I was very surprised there are only 4 bags of food plus the whey drink mix. I was expecting 9 bags because it says 3 days for 1 person. If this was an emergency or a hiking trip I wouldn't have any place to safely store the leftovers until the next meal. Two adults could probably finish one pouch per meal so you could get a solid 5 meals from this. After some research on how these companies figure servings it works like this. You get a total of 5,440 calories. Divided by 3 and you get 1,813 per day which is how they came up with calories for one per person for 3 days. It's on the low side but acceptable. We are not preppers but buy our share of dehydrated / freeze dried meals for backpacking. These are ok, on the bland side despite the usual high amount of sodium. Not many veggies in the soup or creamy pasta. The creamy vegetable pasta tastes like the noodle soup but with milk powder. All the meals are vegetarian which is why they are on the cheaper side. The oatmeals are pretty good and should be even better after hiking or in a real emergency when you want something hot. One serving has an amazing 7 grams of fiber. It remains quite chewy but isn't bad. There are 6 different grains in each variety. The apple cinnamon has A bit of an artificial flavoring smell. These are good enough I may buy them for hiking if I can find them sold separately. The Whey milk is not bad. Tastes like an unflavored whey based protein drink. And I drank it at room temperature. Now that it is open I will add it to my smoothies or milk shakes to use it up. You could also mix into pasta to give it a creamy texture which is what they use in the creamy pasta in addition to dried milk. I did not try the rice and beans. For the price I would have given it 5 stars if there were single serve packages or two servings per package. This is only a realistic option for a family of three for one day or two very hungry people for 1.5 days assuming you don't want leftovers after each meal. Since I am just testing these I put the leftovers in the fridge and ate them over the course of 3 days. They all tasted fine on the 3rd day. Now that you know what to expect you will not be surprised but will be prepared.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A bit confused So, this is labeled as a 72 food supply for emergencies with three servings per day having a total of 34 servings. However each of the food packets includes 4 servings. Assuming one is in an emergency situation and wants to make the food last 3 days as suggested, I am unsure how one can safely store the remaining servings to last for the time period. Luckily, in a seeming acknowledgement of this fact, there are more servings than quoted (5 packages at 4 servings would suggest 5 meals for 4 days or approximately 6 days at 3 servings). So, in the end, I'm not quite sure how I would use these. I think it will be preparing 1/2 (so technically 2 servings) when eating to maintain the integrity of the freeze dried food and try to maintain some semblance of positioning. I have not tasted these as it's supposed to be for emergencies, but from what I heard they are of pretty good quality. I might eventually open one up to try it but, I'm not sure yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best price on this product anywhere that I could find! Looked all over the internet for this product and the best price on it. Home Depot blew everyone else away, by far. We didn't even know they carried it until we saw a pop up ad on another site where we were looking. Arrived quickly and in perfect shape. We haven't tried our product yet, since we purchased it for "emergency situations", but we've tried Wise Food before on a hiking trip with friends several years ago and were pleased enough to order their product again now that we were ready to purchase some for ourselves.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly implemented, and not enough calories The 72 hour emergency food supply is provided in a sturdy cardboard box with 6 mylar pouches containing 12 servings of entrees, 8 servings of breakfasts, and 14 servings of milk. Immediately I wondered how this divided equally in to 3 days of food. We have 4 entrees a day, 2 breakfasts a day (with another 2 breakfasts) and 4 servings of milk a day (with another 2 servings). I opened the box to find dried powder everywhere, and upon inspection it was evident that one of the pouches was not sealed properly and had cracked where the pouch had been sealed. Not a great start. Each of the different meal types is in a single pouch, but no information is given on how long you can store an opened pouch - do we have to prepare a full pouch (4 servings) at a time, or can we open a pouch on day one and still use the reminder on day 3? In the event of a natural disaster you don't want to be faced with confusing emergency meals. As this kit is described as being for a single person, for 3 days, we aught to have an equally divisible amount of meals for those 3 days. The meals should be in single serving pouches and not lumped in to pouches that contain 4 servings. Imagine having to worry about 6 open pouches on day one, trying to keep the remaining servings dry. This is a great idea, but poorly executed and with poor quality control (an open pouch in my box). The manufacturer claims they last up to 25 years, but on receipt one of my pouches had already failed. The total calories of all the contents is 5,440, which is under the recommended calorie needs. According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2010, sedentary men over age 60 often need 2,000 calories daily to maintain a healthy body weight. However, sedentary men and moderately active men 60 and younger need at least 2,200 calories a day for healthy weight maintenance. This kit provides ~1,800 calories a day.
