I'm not an expert but I don't believe the previous answer is correct. You want to use right cut if you need to "curve" to the right, use left cut to "curve" to the left, and use straight cut for a straight line. They have nothing to do with you being left/right handed.

Yes, you should buy the pair that is designed for use with whichever hand you use.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by quality I found these to be reasonably priced and perfect for cutting flashing for the new flat roof deck i installed. May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Brand for Snips I've tried most of the other brands and this is the best in my opinion. February 23, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Crisp, clean and easy cutting I needed a pair of aviation snips to cut some metal ducting to size. These cut cleanly, crisply and easily. Even at twice the price these would be a steal. Make sure you get the right ones for your use. According to the Tools expert at HD each color is designed for something different. Yellow snips are designed to cut in a straight line. They can also cut wide curves and are ideal for flat pieces of metal. Green handled snips are designed to make straight and right (clockwise) cuts and are perfect for right handers cutting duct. Red handled snips cut best straight and to the left (counter-clockwise). You can use any of the snips in either hand but they will only perform well when cutting in the direction they were intended for. Look for offset snips as they keep your hands up and away from the sharp metal and always wear leather gloves when handling and cutting metal and aluminum. November 3, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cutting galvanized roofing was tough I was able to cut the roofing in a choppy manner. My hands are small, and not as strong as a mans. If I rest and keep going back at it, I may be able to get a perfect circle. March 25, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by they are ok I like them but i would buy them more often if they had a more convenient hook to open them and close them.. instead of opening them by pushing the little hook with my thumb, squeeze them open. January 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wiss snips are great for tough work... I have been working in commercial steel for the last 7 years. I am 24 yrs. old and have had the swiss left and right snips for the whole duration.. They are great at the job site , never have they mechanically or structually broke in any way.. However, they do rust when left out, woops , So, i highly reccommend the wiss snips for any contractor use . I love em, just put in a hard wood floor at my house and used the trusty snips for cutting all the porcelien tiles, they work great ... Thank you Wiss .. David-hotday May 22, 2009
