Would this cut through a metal bathtub spout?

I have a slip-on metal tub spout that somehow got mis-aligned inside and the set screw to remove it is no longer even visible from the slot to access it. Would this snips work to cut the spout outer metal shell so I can get to the screw? I've tried pulling on the inside with pliers to see if I can move the ring/plastic insert to try to get the set screw accessible, but that was no use.

Thanks for the reply, Apex. The part was less than 18ga thick so I was able to use it to cut around until I found the screw :)

Answer:
Sinosamba,
The Wiss Aviation Snips are designed and intended to cut up to 18 gauge low carbon steel, commonly refereed to as 18 gauge sheet metal. With out knowing the strength and thickness of the metal tub spout in question, it is impossible to make a recommendation on the right tool for this cut.

Yes the snips are rated for 18 awg. I think the rain gutters are within the rating.

I need to cut a number of lengths of garden welded wire. How would these snips do? Will my hands tire easily using these? Better way to cut welded wire?

I would either use linesman side cutters which have sturdier induction hardened cutting blades or bolt cutters for thicker material. These both are sheer cutting blades that use a guillotine-like action with both blades meeting in the middle. The snips can cut up to 18 awg steel but use a bypass action (like scissors). This makes it hard to cut wire because they tend to twist and let the wire slide in Read More

NSGardener,
Our aviation snips are specifically designed to cut 18 gauge sheet metal. While they will most likely make the cut in your welded wire, there are better tools for the job. I would suggest looking into our Pivot Pro Linesmen plies, Model # CCA20509 Internet # 204989452 Store SKU # 1000042568. These pliers are designed with a special pivot joint that allows the user to cut with 40% less effort

just how welll do these cut right and left?

I have read product description where it says "capable of cutting left, right and straight in light stock"

I plan to cut 6" diameter holes into 10" and 8" round, rigid (28 gauge) ducts.
Is 28 gauge (galvanized) considered "light"?
Will the tight (6") diameter cuts on rather small (8 and 10") mains be a problem for this tool?

Am I better off getting a left/right set?
This is for a new install, so I can get all around the duct. Thanks

You should be able to cut left or right with these snips. Although if you buy the 3 pack the left and right cutters are included. I would watch a video on how to use aviation snips correctly on Youtube. It would show how to use the snips to cut tight circles. There is a technique that is a little different than with scissors that you need to use. 28 awg is light for these snips they can handle up to 18 Read More

Carpot, The M3RS is designed to mainly cut straight lines in sheet metal. While its main purpose is to cut straight and can cut to the right and to the left, but in a wider arc then you are looking for. I would suggest using the M1RS and M2RS to make the tight 6" cuts you are planing on making. You can also find the Wiss 3 pack in store and online Model # M123R Internet # 100273810 Store SKU # 317027.
