Customer Questions & Answers

Can this timer be used to turn lights ON??

I understand that the most common usage is to turn lights off. However, this would be used for a project that will turn on an indicator light in 4 hours. Is this possible with these timers? Thank you!
Asked by: Buddy
This timer switch operates either "Off" or countdown "On", meaning it will keep an electrical device on for a given timed period. It will not turn a device on at a later time. Hope this helps.

Picture people turning it all the way down thinking it's off and leaving it running that way for days or longer. It happened. With this timer, people can run the fan for as long as they want but after the time expires - it's off for good. It saves electricity and needless wear on the motor. If your box has ground and neutral wires and you can properly dress those wires in the box, installation is a 10minute job. I've had other Woods timers on the job for over a year, and they just work.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 1 hour is actually 6 minutes I am on my second one of these. The first one was defective. After I installed it worked OK. After a weeks use It ran for about 6 minutes on the 1 hour setting and would shut off at 4 hours when set for 8 hours. If you get one keep the box, because you will probably need to return it. The replacement seems to work without issue. The only reason to buy one of these is the price. It is about half the price of the other multi hour countdown timers, I guess you get what you pay for. It was easy to install for a diy. If you plan to hire an electrician, I would go for another more reliable brand....

I actually like the design of this product and the fact that most other basic timers only go up to 4 hours. However, it's only been about a year since I installed this (straightforward installation) and the button has become mostly unresponsive. I have to click the button 10 times or more just to get the dang thing to change to the next value. This is particularly annoying in the middle of the night when I'm half asleep and instead of turning off the fan, I end up waking my 1 year old daughter up who is highly-sensitive to sound and have to pull out the bouncy ball and bounce her to sleep in the dark, all the while avoiding losing balance and cracking our skulls. Poor quality. Not a huge deal to replace, although I'll have to spend another $15-$20 on a new, different timer. Just another thing to (re)do around the house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battery Charger Timer I had a problem with leaving batteries on charge for longer than recommended in "dumb chargers" - as in days at a time. I mounted this timer along with a duplex outlet in a metal double box with a short cord to supply power. Now I have a utility timer I can set for 1,2,4,or 8 hours and then it shuts off. The whole thing can be used anywhere I need it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I use it for my front porch light. Works great and this way I won't forget to turn it off in the morning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works exactly as you expect the unit is a bit deep, as are most timer switches, so if you are installing a new box, i would recommend an extra deep one if possible, to have plenty of room for wiring in the rear. other than that, installation is pretty straightforward using the included diagrams. basically, this unit goes between the black wire from the breaker box and the black wire for the fixture you are timing via the black and red wires, respectively. then, all white gets combined, and all green gets grounded. the timer works just like you expect. if you pick two hours, after one hour the one hour light will be lit, and then the unit will turn off after another hour, and the red 'ready' light will be lit.
