Answer:
The new tank does not have any hose. Your grill's hose and regulator may be long enough to reach the top of the new tank, but grill hoses are meant for use on the short regular size propane tanks. If your hose does not fit, longer replacement hoses with regulators are available at Home Depot and Ace Hardware stores.

Answer:
No, a sticker on the tank warns that in your first fill, the filling person should purge the air from the tank. They all do that anyway.

New propane containers (tanks or cylinders) are sometimes shipped with shipping air that provides a balance of pressure while shipping over various altitudes, and locations. Shipping air that is in the tank may be as much as 100 PSI. To be able to fill the tank fully that pressure must be relieved first down to one atmosphere which must be replaced by purging the tank with propane vapor, not liquid, which is what the filling stations use to fill your propane containers with after the first purge with vapor.

Do these new tanks contain shipping air and do they have to be properly purged prior to filling with propane?

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Blue Collar Purchase Very simple. I needed a 40 pound propane tank and none were available in stock at any local stores. The Home Depot online store was easy to use, and my order was fulfilled in a very reasonable amount of time. I was notified when it arrived at the store. The store staff was friendly and proficient as always. Exciting? Nope. Did I get the item I needed and save myself the headache and time of shopping? Yep. Not my first time to use THD online ordering and it won't be my last. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cost effective solution to supplying an emergency generator Very high quality - American made. Two local propane companies wanted over $1000 to upgrade my propane service in connection with a new generator. Two of the Worthington 40# tanks and a Rubbermaid yard box - I'm in business for a fraction of that amount! June 14, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great quality at a low price Well made, good paint finish, good quality valve and strong base. It is a propane tank, so not much to say- looks like thousands of others. I have been using this same brand of tank, also from Home Depot, for years with zero problems. April 5, 2016
