Answer:
The new tank does not have any hose. Your grill's hose and regulator may be long enough to reach the top of the new tank, but grill hoses are meant for use on the short regular size propane tanks. If your hose does not fit, longer replacement hoses with regulators are available at Home Depot and Ace Hardware stores.

New propane containers (tanks or cylinders) are sometimes shipped with shipping air that provides a balance of pressure while shipping over various altitudes, and locations. Shipping air that is in the tank may be as much as 100 PSI. To be able to fill the tank fully that pressure must be relieved first down to one atmosphere which must be replaced by purging the tank with propane vapor, not liquid, which is what the filling stations use to fill your propane containers with after the first purge with vapor.

Do these new tanks contain shipping air and do they have to be properly purged prior to filling with propane?

If air transportation is in question, you may want to reach out to the FAA. They may require the valve be removed so that they can inspect it's contents & to confirm the cylinder is not under pressure. Is there a resistance sender built into the valve of your 40 lb. tanks? If so I need two tanks which I will now be able to remotely monitor the remaining propane.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great quality at a low price Well made, good paint finish, good quality valve and strong base. It is a propane tank, so not much to say- looks like thousands of others. I have been using this same brand of tank, also from Home Depot, for years with zero problems. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Havent used it yet but homedepot online products arrive damaged I have not used this product yet but home depot online products arrive damaged. I ordered a grill and when I picked it up it was damaged I did not notice it until after putting it together, I ordered a propane tank and the damage to the box and tank was so obvious it was insulting. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Let down on purchase. The propane tank wasn't delivered as advertised. The questions and answer section at the time said the tank was purged. It was not. Purging is a added expense which I didn't want to bear. February 16, 2016
