Questions & Answers

What material is the post made of? and HOw do you mount the post to the ground?

Asked by: tbelle
Post are cast-aluminum. Posted in backyard, so I dug out a small portion of grass and mounted the post in with a small amount of quick dry cement. I purchased 2 post and set a bench in between for cozy evenings along with a fire pit near.

where can I find replacement light fixtures. The screw on top of lantern. I purchased 2 and the lantern glass cracked from damaged by tornado, but poles are fine, need new lights. I don't want to repurchase this item just for the tops.

Hi concerned, I believe it would be best to reach out to the manufacturer XEPA TECHNOLOGIES for assistance. I have linked their website below with their contact information page so that you may receive the best details from their specialists. Hope this helps! The picture shows raindrop glass, but I received crackle glass in my order? (200 lumen old model seems to be crackle glass too) Anyone also received crackle glass? Is that what being shipped now? I don't really like the spider like pattern on the ground, just wondering if raindrop glass would look better.
Asked by: mcdull
Answer my own question. I called XEPA (APEX) customer service. She checked their own web site and saw it showed raindrop glass. She said there were available as 2 versions (really?) and told me to contact Home Depot blaming they had mixed up the shipment if homedepot.com showed raindrop glass. I don't think she knew anything and offered nothing helpful I called Home Depot and the customer service said I should return the shipment and order another one to see if I get raindrop glass this time. I ordered 2nd one and it came again as crackle glass. Both 2 will go back to Home Depot and XEPA.

It lives outside in the South Florida weather bolted to a 12" paver. I even left it out during two hurricanes over this period. It still lights just like it did on day one. I placed an order for 7 more. I hope they have kept the same quality. Powdercoated Aluminum and glass construction

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice :) Let me start out by saying the quality was far more superior than I would have imagined. I love the "bubbled" look in the glass. The actual lantern was bigger than I had imagined so was thrilled with that, as well. The entire piece is made very well and is quite sturdy. I was afraid it may have been something that I'd considered "flimsy" but on the contrary....very study and well built. There is even a diagram on how to install it into concrete (or deck) which I appreciated. Very pleased and think you will be, too. The ease of solar vs. electric was also a HUGE factor..you'd never know by looking at it that it's solar....which is so cool!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK lamp, with some issues There is a lot to like about a lamp that does not require an electrical supply. Unfortunately, this one also had a few issues. The good: The lamp is fairly well constructed out of aluminum, Assembly is very simple, one section is held together with 3 allen bolts (allen key supplied), the other sections just screw together. The globe is glass and not plastic. Rechargeable batteries are user changeable. All mounting hardware, and template are included (see picture). The lamp has 3 settings. High, Low (which turns to High, if motion detected), or Off. The bad: The finish is not very robust. My had chipped in the box before it arrived (see picture). The 3 holes that accept the allen bolts were poorly cut and made assembly fiddly. The unit is more of a feature lamp than a full size one (see picture next to my workshop door for scale). The batteries need replacing after 500 cycles, that is 500 days. The manual states they last for 'almost 2 years' at 500 cycles. 2 years is 730 days, so its closer to 1.5 years. The motion detector is on one side, so 360 degree motion detection is not possibly. If approached from behind or the side the light will not change to full brightness.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Attractive Solar Lamp Post with Variable Luminescence This was a welcome decor change to an ordinary house front. I've wanted a lamp post. What's in the box? 4 Easy pieces. 1) The base gets screwed into cement - screws included. 2) Two lamp post pieces - one uses screws to go on and one is threaded. 3. A Solar Lamp threaded to easily screw on the post. What wasn't in my box? The screws were poorly packed, I was missing four screws that secure the first part of the pole to the base. Luckily, I had access to another set. First flaw I found that downgraded the quality was in the second screw on metal pole, it had a mfg flaw. Again, I'm from a former steele mfg state and study metal arts, this isn't a high quality heavy metal. That isn't always bad. In tropical storm areas of the country light weight pieces like this, installed so they can be brought inside, are better than a permanent heavy metal light. Before permanent installation I assembled the Lamp Post and set it on the base. The tools I needed were a Drill with a cement bit, a socket kit to secure the long screws provided and a level. I placed the lamp outside two days in a row to ensure it was fully charged. Then I decided where I would place the Electric eye, a plastic round piece seen in my photos below, before permanent installation on a base. The Low light setting stays on all night. The light has 3 positions, Low, Off, and Bright. The only place that the Motion Detector is of use is when the light is on Low. When Motion is detected the low light illuminates brighter. It doesn't seem much brighter, but I tested it on the night of a full moon. The 160 degree angle that the motion detector works on is somewhat erratic. It works with a small amount of motion, other times you have to be on top of it to make it work. But, I have this near an electric motion detector that is erratic, so that appears normal to me. This is attractive both from a distance and close up. The light works in the ten foot area and projects rings of light. Some people might not like the lamp glass, it appears rained on. That's how it was described to me. I like it. The last test of this Lamp Post will be how long the battery lasts. Hopefully I won't be finding out for a couple of years. We had a blackout last week so this Solar Lamp Post is needed for when my electric company fails again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very stylish, great quality lamp I purchased this lamp a few months ago and did not install in in my yard until this past weekend. The lamp is made of glass and a lightweight metal which gives it a stylish look and feel. And as promised, it stays on the entire night (dusk to dawn). On low setting it provides an adequate amount of light to my dark yard. However, the lamp has not detected any motion so that aspect of the lamp I will have to downgrade. But overall the lamp is lightweight, very easy to put together and looks very expensive in my yard. You will need something something such as a concrete pad or block of treated wood to bolt the lamp to if installing in a flowerbed. Overall, this lamp is a definite MUST BUY.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! I bought this lamp post for a problem area by the front walk. There is a step down and in the winter the landscape lights do not charge as they should due to low light conditions. I was hoping this lamp post would do the job of lighting the walk but I was a bit worried because this area doesn't get a lot of direct sunlight especially in winter. I was very surprised when I put the lamp post up on a very overcast day. It stayed lit all night and into the next morning until I left for work around 8:00 a.m. It does a great job of lighting the area and when you approach the post it emits a brighter light if you use the auto setting. We used 12" long landscape nails through the holes in the base to stake it securely in the flower bed. It looks great. Easy assembly. Lightweight. Stylish. Functional. I would highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent. Free light using the sun First unit they sent me was a dud. It never worked from day one. It had a charge but after the initial charge was gone it didn't recharge, so I had to return it. Second unit is doing great. I leave it on and it gets enough sunlight in sunny Southern California. I like the 300 lumens, which is pretty high, a lot of other ones are 100 or so lumens. To me this was most important.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice lights with a cool spider lines We thought the glass had broken in transit for the lights but it turns out it is the new design. It does produce a cool pattern in the driveway and provides light for the dark end near the garage. One of the batteries was bad but the manufacturer replaced it quickly and free of charge.
