How thick is 16 ga in inches? 1/4" or so? I need to make some taller and want to weld on some additional pipe to add height.

I just had my wife measure (I'm not home) and she says the ones we have appear to be 3/8" wall thickness. I was trying to remember from looking at them early this morning and think they might be 1/4" thick but definitely enough to weld on extension to go higher. Agree?

Answer:
16 gauge steel is ~.063-.065" thick (1/16th of an inch). So if ithe OD is 2-3/8" thick, the ID is 2-1/4" thick. It could probably be mig or tig welded if done carefully but stick welding would almost definitely blow through. Also, you should ventilate properly if welding this as it has galvanized coating which is very dangerous to breathe during welding process. A better idea might be to use a coupler Read More

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great fence post Used these 2 3/8 fence post with my 6 feet pressure treated dog ear fencing. Turn out great and saved a lot of cash if I would've had someone else to do it. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 2 3/8" Round Metal Posts I use these posts inside my square vinyl posts so I don't have to dig post holes. I drive these posts until they are solid and trim the square vinyl to the proper height. I slip the square post over the solid round post, align and fill with dry readymix concrete. Fill the vinyl post with water and you have a solid installation. This is not necessarily economical if you have a lot of posts to set, but if you have a small number of posts to set and/or limited space for equipment to drill holes, this works pretty well. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My Deer Fence Project I purchased set of 2-3/8 corner and 1-5/8 line 8ft posts, 10ft top rails and a gate, total 24 posts and 22 rails for my Deer Fence project. I ordered all stuff online and all package was delivered for FREE to my place in just few days. That was first nice surprise, what could be easier. I installed the posts with 2' and 3' WizPosts... which I also purchased with the same order. My wife was proud of me when job got done in couple of weekends by me alone (save approx. $1K). Then we purchased three rolls of 7.5ft x 100ft deer barrier plastic net and installed it together. Work was simple as you are playing the Lego constructor... but you need to be at least with straight hands. Great shop, great online service, great products!!! May 2, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sturdy All posts were straight and not damaged. Easy to install. I installed a 30 foot fence with all these posts and it's really sturdy. May 11, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Poles! I needed poles so my fence wouldn't fall over. It would be tiring having to go and stand an entire fence up like a house of cards every time the wind blew. So -I decided to put these poles out there to attach my fence to - and it worked! August 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent product the posts are good and strong they support the weight of gate without bending or leaning. Good heavy construction. July 17, 2013
