Assembly wasn't too involved at all. Started on the first pull. Naturally, you don't realize how many branches you want to chip that are over 2" in diameter till you start to work, but I went with this one because it got better reviews than the 3" one and so far it does not disappoint.

This is a great chipper/shredder. What is ironic is that this is the cheapest gas chipper/shredders I could find and also one of the highest rated. A lot of these came with a Briggs & Stratton engines in the past but I love the Powermore engine on the newer models. They are very easy to start, easy to check and add oil, and powerful for their size. You might want to consider making a tamping tool like I did (see attached pictures) to push twigs, small sticks and pine cones through the leaf hopper as that heavier debris tends to get stuck in the curved bottom.

I bought this chipper shredder to replace an older MTD chipper shredder that I bought used 17 years ago. I have 8 huge maple trees and 2 acres with lots and lots of flower beds. I make my own mulch with wood, leaves, and my plants I cut off in the fall, so it got a lot of use and worked wonderfully until this fall. I then bought this new chipper shredder. It was fairly easy to assemble. I like the drop down hopper to rake leaves into but it is a little narrow and would work a little better if it was open on top as my other one was. When raking leaves in, the rake hits the hopper, and it's not possible to help the leaves along if they get stuck. And especially if the leaves are not completely dry, the entire hopper can be jammed with leaves before you know it because you can't see in the hopper without raising it up. I spent a lot of time lifting the hopper to help the leaves along. Also when the hopper is up, it would be nicer if it was more upright so you could drop things in easier, like my other one.

exceptionally hard to start, has failed to start now, going to the warranty people tomorrow after only 3 hours use in past year, since purchase in March '14..fresh gas etc. Wire hanging out of engine, called B & St".that wire is only "IF YOU HAVE AN ON OFF SWITCH). I don't, we'll see about the warranty tomorrow. wish there was a better option, had a large Craftsman put hundreds of hour on it and sold it for what I had paid for it, of course it looked like new. I take good care of my equipment.

Little & easy assembly, started on first pull, powerful & able to do its job. Does tend to clog if leaves are at all wet--needs push rod to maintain feed into shredder. Also need to use bag or other cloak over discharge--strong air current generated that blows shredded material all over. Able to handle branches 2.5-3 inches diameter. Good product

Received it 2 days ago. Inordinate amount of trouble trying to add oil - can't reach between the engine components to remove oil filler caps. I was almost ready to pack it up and send it back for poor design. My shredding is mostly pine straw. Very slow going the 1st day: machine jamming, poking around in the chute with a stick to clear it. My 2nd day, though, I have it whipped - I think. Pine straw and leaves have to be absolutely dry and they will slide right through. It will produce raw mulch at a very good rate. As for adding oil: get an auto-parts store funnel with long clear tubing attached. Works like a dream. I now like my shredder.
