Answer:
Some mowers have a "lock" on the starter that won't let you pull the cord for more than a few inches.. Check starting instructions in your manual. Also be sure your pull cord is not knotted or wrapped around the handle and it goes through the guide loops on the handle.

Looks like you own the same mower as I. Go back to Home Depot with the make and model number of your mower and perhaps they will have a replacement bag there, or they may help you order a new bag. You will need two parts, the catcher frame part # 747-05226 and the bag, part # 764-04077A . You can also go to the Home Depot website. . Some assembly required. Here's to your nice lawn.

You could do one of three things - look in your mowers manual, do an online search or go to a store that sells your make of mower. Most manuals will have a general or specific parts diagram and the part number of the catcher should be there.

If not, go on line put as much information about your lawnmower in the search field (e.g., grass catcher bag for 22" MTD lawn mower, model number Xyz1256). Or take this information to a retailer that sells your make of mower and they should be able to look it up for you. I have found the people at Home Depot to be fairly knowledgeable and helpful. In the mean time you can leave your clippings on the lawn. If you don't have a mulcher type mower and the grass clippings are kind of long and unsightly, mow the grass in one direction, then mow it again in another. This will mulch the grass. Mulching is a good thing if it is not to thick.

No, it's a walk behind so you have to push the mower yourself. It is light weight and easy to push, just depends on how easy and level your yard is.

I see you are using a Yard Machine. Does it have gas and is the spark plug wire firmly plugged onto the sparkplug. If you are safety minded, you probably unplugged the spark plug when you were working or cleaning the mower and forgot to plug it back in (as I have done). If after checking these two things, it still doesn't start, unscrew the spark plug to see if it is fouled. If it looks good, put it back in. If it looks wet, wipe it dry with a cloth or paper towel, blow any lint off the tip, and re-install. If it still doesn't start. go to the Troubleshooter section of the manual. You can go to Home Depot with your mowers make and model number and they might have a copy of the manual for you to read or go to the MTD website and lookup the manual for your model. Bob, try going on-line and doing a search for the manual. Many manufactures and others have manuals on their website for you to either download or print out. When doing your on-line search be sure to include the product full name, and model number (e.g. 21" Murray lawn mower ABC123) to get quicker, accurate results.

The simplest answer is to check the blade disconnect cable and handle for proper operation and check the spark plug for gap or if the casing is cracked and boot to see if it is secure.

21 in. 140 cc Gas Walk-Behind Lawn Mower-DISCONTINUED is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 109.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Somethings Wrong with system enginering Bought it last year, tried to use it this year, I remember trying last year after a few uses and it didnt start and now Im trying to work the kinks out and the reviews are the same problems as mine, tired spark plug, compression, fuel, clean the bowl, idk whats going on with it but its maybe the key way snapped and cant tell or engine kill switch connection is my best guess but the spark plug still sparks so I am stumped, too bad they never gave advise on whats wrong with the common problems. I feel ripped off. Find a mower with a primer bowl and choke lever. Get something else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The engine is a lemon I bought this and from the very beginning the engine would only run for a few minutes and the die. If I waited awhile, I could start it again, but again it would only run for a few minutes. However, after using it for a while longer now it won't start at all! If you go to the Briggs & Stratton 550ex webpage, you'll see the engine only has a 1.8 out of 5 stars rating. I don't know what they did, but B&S really messed up this engine model. I took the mower to a B&S engine repair shop for warranty service, and hopefully that won't take too long, but this whole process is ridiculous. Stay away from this mower; just go somewhere else and find another brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk Do Not Buy I purchased this mower last July (2012) and used it about 6 or 7 times on our small yard before our grass cutting season ended. Problems from the beginning. Engine would stop after 1/2 tank of gas used. If I refilled tank to the top, I then could continue mowing until down to half tank again. In this new season (2013) the mower refuses to start at all. The manufacturer as cheapened this machine down to the point of junk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No power This product was purchased at the end of the season last year. Lack of time and in store stock prompted the purchase. I have since repaired my former mower that was 7 years older because this machine is COMPLETLY USELESS. If you use this mower in between visits from a professional landscaper it probably still wont do the job.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Stalled after first 10 mins. Got mower home, assembled handle and put gas in and it started on second pull, however after 10 minutes engine started to rev up and down a few times and shut down!Re-start and stalled again numerous times so I was going to put in my truck and return. Finished my yard with my neighbors mower and went to try starting again and it cranked right up and ran good . Ran smooth and no sign of stalling. If it happens again it will be returned!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst mower ever DO NOT BUY THIS MOWER! I bought this mower last year in the end of September and used it twice in October and once in November before the rain started. I had trouble with the engine staying on and had trouble starting the engine all three times I used it. I just pulled it out of the garage to mow the lawn and it won't start at all. Checked the air filter. Checked the spark plug. Put brand new fresh gas in and....nothing. This is the biggest failure in push mower history. An absolute waste of time, energy, and money! DO NOT BUY THIS MOWER
Date published: 2014-03-09
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Schizo Mower I bought the 2011 version of this, and from the beginning the engine seemed to have a mind of its own. It will work for 5-6 mowings, although stops a lot and I have to push the choke button to re-start, and then there will be a day when it just won't start. Or better yet it'll run for 5 minutes while I mow 2 strips and then will quit, then can't get it restarted the rest of the day or night. Then 2 days later it'll start and work fine. As I'm typing this, my neighbor is mowing my yard after seeing me once again fighting with it. He said "I've seen that thing act up on you so many times and even spew out smoke, so I figured I'd give you a break." It's time to get a better mower !

Rated 1 out of 5 by from great value for something that doesn't work bought one 2 yrs ago, used it half a dozen times then couldn't get it to crank. took it back and home depot did replace it. used it maybe 5 times and now the new one won't crank. ridiculous.
