Only have used about 5 times so far. I put gas in engine and it seem that every other time or so gas just runs out of the carb. I took it to B&S repair, after the gas was completely gone from the engine so my car wouldn't be filled with gas fumes. They had it for a week and then told me they put gas in it, started it, and there was nothing wrong with it. They charged me $25 for simply starting it.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Jimmy DON'T BUY THIS YARD MACHINE
Purchased this in April 2014. This is the second Yard Machine I've owned as I had to return the first one the same day due to the same issue - won't start. I have realized that I just handed over $200 to Home Depot and the maker of this miserable product for about 7 mows of my small front and back yard. Home Depot would not take the mower back (return policy) Now I'm faced with the spectre of getting the HD rental department to take a look at it. To do that, I had to preapprove repairs up to $100 plus a $18.95 charge just to look at it. I will not buy any more yard equipment from Home Depot. NEVER.

This is the worst machine I have eve bought in my life! The filter cover constantly comes off. Gas tank cap is constantly comes off. Oil cap constantly is coming off and blowing oil on the machine before I can stop the mower. and the vibration gives blisters on my hands even with gloves on. The last straw was when the mount for the engine broke. This is the poorest design for a mower I have EVER seen. Also sometimes it just stops for no reason. And even with the proper tourke on the bolt holding the blade on it has come off several times while mowing. This machine has been nothing but a pain to use and has been a very bad experence.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Eepsy The engine is a lemon
I bought this and from the very beginning the engine would only run for a few minutes and the die. If I waited awhile, I could start it again, but again it would only run for a few minutes. However, after using it for a while longer now it won't start at all!
If you go to the Briggs & Stratton 550ex webpage, you'll see the engine only has a 1.8 out of 5 stars rating. I don't know what they did, but B&S really messed up this engine model. I took the mower to a B&S engine repair shop for warranty service, and hopefully that won't take too long, but this whole process is ridiculous. Stay away from this mower; just go somewhere else and find another brand.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 1015riverway A great brand in decline
Ever since I purchased my first Yardman lawn mower I refused to buy anything else. They always started. I am very disappointed in this mower. I bought it the Spring of 2012. Like it said, it started right up without a primer bulb. This year however it will not start. My old Yard Machine that I had for many years developed a gas leak so I purchased this one. Decided to check my old one just to see if it would start. I primed it 3 times and it started right up. The company made a big mistake removing the primer button. I feel that is the reason everyone is having a problem starting this once great brand. I am now trying to locate a used Yard Machine WITH a primer button.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Blake Ran for literally 2 minutes
Carefully followed setup instructions so I wouldn't miss anything, and set it aside before starting to work on something else. My wife started it, mowed into some medium thick grass and it died. She re-started it, hit the grass and it died again. I thought that the grass may have built up underneath, but we looked and it was clean. Tried to start it again (third start) and it would not start, and continued to not start for the next day. pulled the plug and it was fouled, was going to consider replacing the plug but after all the other comments I've read it seems like a waste of time, returning today and going to pay a little more for a better brand, B&S made a lemon on this one.

I bought the 2011 version of this, and from the beginning the engine seemed to have a mind of its own. It will work for 5-6 mowings, although stops a lot and I have to push the choke button to re-start, and then there will be a day when it just won't start. Or better yet it'll run for 5 minutes while I mow 2 strips and then will quit, then can't get it restarted the rest of the day or night. Then 2 days later it'll start and work fine. As I'm typing this, my neighbor is mowing my yard after seeing me once again fighting with it. He said "I've seen that thing act up on you so many times and even spew out smoke, so I figured I'd give you a break." It's time to get a better mower !

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Mower Somethings Wrong with system enginering
Bought it last year, tried to use it this year, I remember trying last year after a few uses and it didnt start and now Im trying to work the kinks out and the reviews are the same problems as mine, tired spark plug, compression, fuel, clean the bowl, idk whats going on with it but its maybe the key way snapped and cant tell or engine kill switch connection is my best guess but the spark plug still sparks so I am stumped, too bad they never gave advise on whats wrong with the common problems. I feel ripped off. Find a mower with a primer bowl and choke lever. Get something else.
