NO!, Gas in the gas tank and oil in the oil fill. But do check your oil often on a new machine. Also at the end of the season I drain out the old oil and refill with new for winter storage that way I'm ready to go in the spring.

No, it is not necessary to mix oil with the regular gasoline. The manual suggests using a stabilizer to mix with the gas. Also, you can use regular motor oil 10W-30 as long as oil container has the "star burst" symbol. Very good mower for the price. Satisfied with performance.

AngiFL, you might have an overheat issue on the spark igniter. If it is a sudden cut-off and not a sputter out which would indicate a fuel issue I would check the spark plug to make it is gapped correctly and that there are no cracks. If it is a sudden cut-off and not a sputter out which would indicate a fuel issue I would check the spark plug to make it is gapped correctly and that there are no cracks. You might want to even replace the spark plug. I know that the manufactures are being pressured by the EPA to install the "green" spark plugs in all new machines and those things will go bad in an instant, so, if you replace the spark plug replace it with a spark plug without the e in front of the part number. They even have a green line around the top of them to indicate their EPA compliance. Read Less

I have a fairly steep slope and I probably shouldn't be using it on that part of my lawn. As long as I go slow and mow at an angle slightly up the slope, I have no problems. Never mow down the slope. And mowing straight up the slope causes the motor to sputter.

Hi EliRod,
I'm Travis from The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site.
Yes, this is a great mower for slopes.
The oversized rear wheels make this mower easier to maneuver over obstacles and on hills. Since there is no drive mechanism, the wheels roll more freely.
Thank you for asking,
-Travis

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pricepoint mower for small yard does the job just fine I have a fairly smallish, very flat yard. I like to view the chore of mowing as an opportunity for a workout as my day job is mostly sitting. So I didn't need a 4x4 with leather and a cup holder. That said I wanted a good motor that I could rely on and enough power to be a little lazy with my cutting schedule. I think this will do just fine. I have only mowed with it twice so I can't speak to the year 2 potential for problems but this is pretty much the same motor as many other more expensive mowers and I wanted none of their features and certainly not their price tags. This will do. However, the motor does sound a little inconsistent. I'm thinking of adding a fuel treatment to the tank to see if it helps but there is definitely a throbbing idle at work. Doesn't seem to affect the performance at all and it starts on one pull every time so far. I do with the handle was adjustable a bit as I'd like it about 2-4 inches higher angled. July 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Always starts. Takes abuse. This is my fourth Yard Machines. I think the first one was made in Canada and it was just a beast. This is my second of this model. Old one hit some chunk of burried metal and cracked the deck. I got it in 2011. I wiil fix it and use it as a light bush hogger and this will be for my civilized lawns. I have rocky ground and forest so there are rocks and branches I hit. In the fall I use it to get up the constant leaves and it works great for that as long as they are dry. Unit arrived in busted open box held together with one piece of tape. Luckily all was there inside and not damaged. Make sure you pull the lower part of the handle out of the deck as it is set on there deep for shipping. Parts are usually easily available from MTD past warranty period. Motor parts you get from Briggs and Stratton. August 24, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by carburetor float pin I got mine second hand, was given to me because it ran at full throttle for a very short time, then gradually died.Pulled the carb bowl off and found the (float hinge pin?)rattling around.Cleaned everyyhing, put the pin back in,now it runs fine. The pin is very tiny,be careful not to lose it. August 21, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Okay only if you drain the fuel Ive had the mower for a little over a year and hve constant problems with the engine starting. I blamed myself for leaving it in the shed for about a week with normal fuel in it, but after cleaning the carb out and only using ethanol free fuel, it will only start even if the fuel is drained each use (even within a few days). Also, always assume a product has issues if you see the mfg selling refurbs. August 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job Bought this mower to replace a corded electric push mower. Blade speed is much higher then my electric and cuts grass better. Over the past 2 weeks I have worked tons of OT so I had no time to cut my lawn, grass was 2"-4" high in most places and higher in small areas. Had to push a bit slower and stalled a few times but was expected for the amount it was cutting. I love the ease of how it cuts and how easy it was to pull start! August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great purchase The mower is very easy to start and does a great job of cutting grass. It's easy to push. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this lawnmower Purchased this lawnmower after purchasing and returning a different brand. This is the same model that I have had for the past several years. I gave that one to a friend in need and bought the new one. I like that it mulches the grass without spitting it out to the side or rear. It starts up easily, is lightweight and compact. It's pretty easy to push, and has plenty enough power for my residential yards. August 2, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Over-priced I was not able to check item out at Home depot, as they had none in stock. I was disappointed in the quality of the mower when received in delivery. I could have done much better, for the price, somewhere else. August 9, 2016
