I bought this mower on line after going to both the Oil City and Butler stores where they were supposedly were stocked after reading Consumer Reports best by recommendation. After traveling about 150 miles I came home and ordered one on line with free shipping. It was not damaged during shipping but was defective in that the right rear wheel could not turn because of a defect in the wheel height adjuster. After 4 Hours and 42 minutes on the phone and Home Depot trying to charge my credit card for a replacement MTD sent me to Bill's Small engine repair, the closest warranty center, that I have been waiting almost 3 weeks! Bought the mower on the 30th of May and yet to have use!

Light weight mower, starts with one pull. Easy to assemble right out of the box. The catch bag tends to be a pain to use, gets hooked on the pull cord when taking it off. But overall good mower for the price.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Joey OK but needs some tips for buyers
This mower out of box is great for someone with little mechanical skill. Pull the cord and go. The biggest tip i can give is use high octane gas and clean the bottom frequently. Low octane gas in this mower will cause your easy to start mower to turn into a worthless piece of metal on wheels. I had to drain the fuel line and use engine starter directly on the carborator to get this mower running after a couple months in the garage. I used 92 octane in a can from my local hardware store, changed the spark plug for good measure and cleaned the bottom out thoroughly . My mower is running fine again
Not a bad mower for the price, just treat it like a princess because it will certainly act like one if you don't.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Timo Great equipment
The equipment is easy to assemble, has a bag that is easy to pull and empty, great high wheels, and very inexpensive...
Great for a small yard, but not for a large yard because it's not self-propelled machine

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Ross Terrible purchase
The mower broke down twice within 3 months of purchasing (no more than 8 uses). The second failure was outside of the manufacturer warranty, so fixing it involved out of pocket expenses.
After the initial repair, the mower lasted the majority of the next season without problems, then the engine completely failed by the end of year two. Thow away after 2 seasons and $80 in repairs.
I had been sold on this motor being highly durable with no maintanence, but my experience was quite the opposite.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Justin2010 Will not start after winter storage
I bought this last year and loved it. It started fine, it was easy to push, and it was relatively quiet. It did stall on high grass sometimes but it never bothered me. I did some maintenance to make sure it would last over the winter by draining the gas out of the tank so it wouldn't varnish. We'll now it won't start after the winter and 45 minutes of pulling. Reviews on other sites like Briggs and Stratton, the company that makes this, gives it around a two star rating overall because others are having the exact same issue. The carburetor breaks or is clogged after one winter and requires complete disassembly, maintenance and reassembly and usually a whole new carb. Or take it to an authorized dealer to fix it via the 2 year warranty. I say no. I have never ow ed a machine that died like this after 5 uses and one winter storage. I will not replace a carb every year because it was shoddily built. ($40 carb for a $200 mower every year?). I bought a warranty too from home Depot so I will try to get it replaced, hopefully with a different machine, as soon as possible.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Doug A nice, easy starting mower
Just used the mower for the first time (February) to pick up leaves in the yard, being disabled and with a bad knee this mower made it easy. Starts right up on the first pull and runs like a dream. The Bag is a little small, the leaves filled it right up, but grass clippings will be no problem with this size of bag. All I had to do to put it together was remove it from the box and unfold the handle, simple and easy.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Chicago Warranty, what warranty?
Purchased in June, after a month the mower starts sputtering. Home Depot would not accept a return after 30 days. Tried to get the manufacturer to honor their 2-year warranty. Turns out it was the magneto/ignition coil that was failing and failed. Since it was part of the engine, the manufacturer of the lawn mower says you have to go through Briggs and Stratton, their 2-year warranty only covers "everything but the engine."
When the engine serial number is run, it turns out that the NEW mower has an engine that was built MORE than 2 years ago, so there is no warranty directly from Briggs and Stratton--you have to get Yard Machines to honor it. They won't unless I have an independent expert certify that it was the magneto. I had to buy a new ignition coil for $25. It works fine now. Yard Machines will NOT reimburse since they don't know "for sure" that the magneto was defective.
Think now--it did not work. The magneto was replaced and it works. That should be proof enough that the magneto was defective--Yard Machines does not want the old magneto (ohm meter shows open circuit.)
