I had a small MTD Yard Machines 5hp snow-thrower for a few years and it is still a great LITTLE machine, but literally in over its head with the heavier, wet snows around NJ lately, so I knew I had to solicit its its big brother for assistance. I got this 8hp beastie and there is no doubt in my mind it will do what I demand of it come the snow season ... right around the corner. It's a big, tough machine and after the easy assembly and adjustments I added gasoline and it fired-up first pull ... I didn't even try the electric crank. Quieter than the little brother too, amazingly. All features and functions were ready to go out of the box, except needing a bit of air in the tires and mounting the snow chute. For anyone getting this or similar machines, anticipate adjustments of the chute crank at the chute ... mine was too tight, jamming it. And! The factory went a little nuts torquing-down the bolts, so be prepared to wrestle! We're armed and ready for war with the snow 2016-17 now!

There were two missing parts, an electric cord and a filter for the gasoline. I called and was told that replacement parts would be sent and that it could take as long as 2 weeks.

I bought this Yard Machine 28in/277cc snowblower as an extra unit to replace my 15yr old one. This SB has exactly what I want, 1. Low price, 2. Good size engine and auger, 3. Simple design.
I live in the northeast region, I need a SB that can handle ice and wet snow in Nov/Dec and heavy snow storms from Jan through Mar.
I do not want too many features, i. e. Heated hand grips, remote chute control, etc. The more features the easier things would break down. And come with these optional features are cables and wires all over the unit. Take a look at Troy Blit Storm 2840, cables hanging out all over... The design for this SB is beautiful, simple, clean, only two cables -drive and auger control cables. This is my own preference.
One drawback is this SB does not have a light, but the 277cc electric start engine has a connector to hook up a light kit. I bought a $10 LED light kit from Amazon (Sharen Led work light) and it works fine.
The 277cc Power More engine on this SB is a much bigger than most 28in SB class on the market. After an ice storm I compared this one to my old 10 horse power Tecumseh SB. This one throws ice and snow about 8 feet farther away. The engine sounds softer and a bit quieter due to better muffler. But it took about 5-8 pulls to get started, comparing 2-3 pulls on Tecumseh.
Besides it has no light, I'm happy with the overall design, lower price, the bigger engine is a plus, and no extra cables and wires mean less breakdown and easy maintenance.
And Home Depot offers Fast and Free shipping a 250lbs snowblower delivered to my driveway!!!

Purchased in July so that I'm not fighting looking for one when I need it this winter. Obviously I cant rate it yet since I have not used it yet. It appears that it will do the job I need it to just fine. Has a very big engine,so it seems.
