2nd tme using mower, it ran for about 15 minutes then cut out. Starts up and then stops.

Read manual, checked oil level, eta.. Frustarted since I just purchased mower in April 2014 and can't figure out what is wrong with it. Any ideas, suggestions. Thank you for help.

Pull the spark plug and clean it. This was the simple fix for mine when it died 5 minutes after 1st startup.

Does this work well on slopes?

My lawn has a couple of slopes in it. I haven't read any reviews that mention it's ability on a slope. Thank you!
Asked by: EliRod
yeah works good because of the big rear wheels. I use it on a ditch and my old self propelled Honda was too heavy for this. I am very happy with this mower.

Customer Reviews

21 in. 140cc OHV Briggs & Stratton Walk Behind Gas Push Mower is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 418.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Please Read if engine stops working!!!!! I've read many reviews about this mower. I bought it and after one summer it wouldn't start. I changed the air filter and spark plug but still nothing. I use regular unleaded gas that uses ethanol. Biggest problem for small engines is ethanol because it will clog up the carburetor. I watched a YouTube video on how to clean this model lawnmower carburetor. I'm not exactly mechanically inclined but I followed it step by step. It's really easy to clean one. I spent $4 on carb/choke cleaner and when I put it back together the lawnmower started up on the first pull. It runs great. If you can get ethanol free gas, buy it. I was planning on spending about $350-$400 on a new lawnmower but no need. If it stops running clean the carburetor. I hope this might help someone who might be in the situation I was in.

While the delivery was very fast, and the assembly was minimal, the mower wouldn't start and I had to return it to my local store. This was a "ready start" mower, with no choke, so we were at the mercy of the pull chord. The clerk at the tool rental portion of the store couldn't start the mower either, so he siphoned off the gas, and I returned the mower for a refund. My conclusion is that the overall rating was not satisfactory.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk! This is my third yard machine. The first lasted countless years, the second lasted 9 years, this one lasted 4 months! Same yard, same matience, same care as the previous 2 received and this engine blew up two days before hurricane Matthew. I've read how the quality decreased but didn't believe it because I do work my mowers hard, but they have always lasted. Not this time though :( $200 wasted.

Drained gas for the winter and wouldn't start this year. Took it to shop and replacing the carburetor. Called Briggs and you guessed it, not covered under warranty. I was told that this is a known issue. If this is a known issue then correct the problem. I had to pay $110 for service. Don't buy. Don't waste you money.

The first one had issues immediately (loose sparkplug connection) and stopped working within 6 months. I took it back and got a replacement. Less tan 4 months later, the thing won't start. I'll have to return a second one. Hours of frustration as i troubleshoot, replace gas, clean carberateur, and still not working. i should have listened to the random guy and bought something of higher quality.

Don't buy 4 and 5 star ratings are from those that just bought this and haven't used for a full season. I purchased last April 2016 and would have gave it the same high rating. No problems for the first season. I drained fuel for the winter and this year it will not start. Repair shop said it needs new carburetor and is not covered under warranty. If you want to purchase a new mower or repair the carburetor every year then go ahead and purchase this. If you want and expect more from your purchase don't buy this.

I should have known better, like they say pay cheap pay twice. Once it sat for a month or so it doesn't want to start. Happened twice. Done with it. Was going to take it apart to see is carburetor was clogged but not even worth it. Take the bowl off and the pin that holds the float just slides off. Cheaply engineered junk. Throwing it out and buying a new one. Do yourself a favor and pay a little more for something that is made well. There is always a reason the cheap stuff is cheap.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worked great the first year then............. I should have heeded the advice of some bad reviews. This mower worked just fine for the first year. The second season, not so well. I could not get it to start. I did not leave gas in the tank (always empty small engines) but did not change the oil since it was only 7 months old. So, I took apart the carburetor and cleaned it though it all looked spotless. Put it back together and and it only starts if I spray fluid in the carb., then it runs fine. Checked the choke cable because apparently it gets stuck on this mower. No problems there. It only starts if I spray into carb. which is a pain in the butt. "Ready start " is not so much.
