Appliances that burn wood typically use stainless steel but with the addition of a fire proof insulating sock to make sure the flue gas does not cool down when rising in the chimney. Liners are sized based on the value, in BTU's they are venting and the height of the chimney. I usually get the BTU's off the rating plate found on the appliance, measure the height and then call Z flex at 1 800 654 5600 and ask them to confirm using there sizing chart. This way I am sure I will have good combustion, as you don;t want the liner to big or two small. And when venting multiple appliances into the same liner you need to make sure you create draft no matter which appliance or combination of appliances is working. Read Less

Can the 5 & 6 Inch liners be used for radiant heat as well or is this 4 inch liner the only one? The specifications say that 5 & 6 are for Convection heat. I am not sure what size I need for my chimney. How do I measure this?

I am sorry as I am not sure I fully understand the question and do not want to lead you in the wrong direction. The type and size of liner is determined based on some of the following conditions. Type of fuel because it will effect the flew gas temp, number of BTU's being vented, height of chimney, discharge size of the appliance, efficiency of the equipment and local code. My point is that the heat distribution system, such as radiant, radiators, hot air , has nothing to do with it. A chimney is typically lined for one of or a combination of three reasons. First, it is required by code in that area when installing new equipment. Two the existing chimney lacks a terracotta liner so there is concern that flue gas may leach into the living space, and Third the current flue is so big and the new equipment so efficient that the will not be sufficient flue gas temp to create draft. Thus we are lining the chimney to make it smaller so there is less space to heat up and draft is created faster. I hope this helps and if you have further questions please feel free to give me a call. Chris 978 651 3301 Read Less

Answer:
I am sorry but I am not exactly sure what your question is and do not want to give you bad information. I can see where there would be applications where you would use B-vent to go from the appliance to the point where the liner exits the chimney. However to tell you if it is correct in your application you would need to consult the code enforcement person in your area. Chris 978 651 3301
