Customer Questions & Answers

Does this product thaw frozen pipes?

I have a frozen drain pipe in a space that isn't heated, I was wondering if this product would help to thaw.
Asked by: Nicole
This won't literally heat up the drain pipe, only heat can do this. If you access to it, you can use a hair dryer or heater to assist in unclogging the ice to break it up. Be aware though, that thawing ice can lead to leaks, so be mindful when doing this. Joseph

will this product work for thawing a frozen drain pipe? Or is it only effective on clogs? In other words- will this product dissolve ice?
Asked by: nokitchensink
Zep Liquid Heat is not formulated for use on frozen pipes. It should only be used as directed for opening clogged drains. We appreciate your inquiry. However, we do not manufacture a product for thawing frozen pipes.

does this product dissolve grout?

My drain is clogged with grout that some idiot contractor poured into the tub drain and it solidified. Will Liquid Heat loosen this enough to clear the drain? Two independent plumbers said the pipes need to be replaced, the contractor says Liquid Heat will do the job.
Asked by: spritely
I can tell you it doesn't work on grease/fat causing a slow to drain kitchen sink, so I think it unlikely it would work on grout.

does this work on urine salts in urinals

Asked by: joe
We would not recommend Zep Liquid Heat Drain Opener for this application. Instead, we would suggest something like our Zep Calcium, Lime & Rust Stain Remover to assist in removing tough mineral deposits. If you have additional questions, please give us a call at 1-888-805-4357 and one of our representatives will be happy to assist you.

Can liquid heat be neutralized with baking soda?

The clog wasn't taken care of and it is sitting in the sink.
Asked by: meah
Zep Liquid Heat will not be neutralized with the use of baking soda. We do not recommend attempting to neutralize the product yourself as it can create unpredictable results. If you consult a plumber, please make them aware of what has been used in the drain so they can take proper precautions.

I used your product for my bathroom shower and it did not work and as of know my bedroom and bathroom both smell very ba

D and its been a day and a half still not better what can I do
Asked by: Steven
We would recommend ventilating the area to assist in eliminating the smell and consulting a plumber since the product was unable to penetrate the clog. Our products are guaranteed. You can locate our Plumbing Guarantee Form at the bottom of our home page on www.zepcommercial.com for details.

19 oz. Liquid Heat Drain Opener is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 148.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Didnt work for me BUT...... Didnt work for me, had a bathroom sink that had stopped draining and had standing water poured it in and within 10 minutes sink had drained. Tried to flush with hot water and sink wouldnt drain just filled up again. I think this is a good product obviously it allowed it to drain the water that was sitting there i just think it would be better to open a slow drain and as a preventative maintenance product. Headed back to try liquid plumber industrial and also to get the instant product that has lye.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poured 32 oz directly into the pipe Sorry... completely ineffective after a 12 minute wait followed by a flush of very hot (180 degree) water. The drain is still clogged and backing upi the line. This is my second use of ZEP products in my lifetime. The first time (simple detergent) was more successful at simple cleaning chores

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible This product does not work. Do not waste your money or time on it. It also says guaranteed tonwork on the packaging and directs you to the website for more information. There isn't more information on the website. If i could give zero stars I would.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked like a charm for me. I tried industrial stuff and didn't work.I tried to check reviews for Zep liquid heat but didn't get reception. So I bought it anyway and dumped down my bathroom sink.I got a big pot of water and boiled it.After about 15 mins dumped boiling water down the drain and water slowly drained.Still a little clogged.I turned on hot water through the sink and boom I heard it unclog deep in the wall about four feet away from the sink.I am very pleased with this product.Hopefully somebody else will have the same experience with this zep product.I had to write this review because I seen to many bad reviews for this product. But I'm glad I didn't read reviews before I purchased it because I wouldn't of brought it if I did.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did nothing for me When experiencing a slow drain, I purchased this as recommended by a Home Depot employee. Before hand I had made sure the p-trap was clean and tried boiling water down the drain. I purchased two bottles of this and neither one helped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second to none! 19 oz. Liquid Heat Drain Opener is exactly the product you want to keep in your home for those moments when the drain clogs up and you need it open now. The day my son came home from college with 2 friends the guest bathroom sink drain stopped up. I added Liquid Heat Drain Opener and did nothing else. 15 minutes later I went back to check on it and the drain was 100% open and functional. This product simply works!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Drain Opener This drain opener worked in my kitchen sink that was very slow draining. All I had to do was open the bottle, pour in the liquid, then wait about 30 minutes before turning on the hot water to flush the drain. It took about 1 minute for the drain to clear and before the water ran quickly and smoothly through the drain. At first, I thought it wasn't working but it cleared the drain. I can't tell if this type of drain opener is better but it did work.
