Questions & Answers

Can it be used on grout on walls of shower. Descriptions says no-earlier reply says yes. Does this mean shower tile walls? Why or why not?

Asked by: SKinreho
It is recommended to use on the floor surfaces, and for a good reason. It's an acid, and if applied to the walls, it will run & can damage the metal fixtures on the wall and even can damage the floor if it's not ceramic.

Is this product safe to use on Kitchen countertop tile grout?
Asked by: emily
Hi Emily, grout is grout. Just be sure to sponge it off the tile with water after you have cleaned the grout.

Will the Zep Grout Cleaner and Whitener damage the ceramic floor tiles while cleaning the grout? ...

Will the Zep Grout Cleaner and Whitener damage the ceramic floor tiles while cleaning the grout? Also does the grout cleaning liquid come with an elongated nozzle so that it only sprays in a targeted location ie. only on the grout and not the tiles? If not, it is a recommendation from consumers to have a nozzle. So how do you target only the grout and not the tile if there's no nozzle? Thanks.
Asked by: ka
We used it with our ceramic tile and it was fine. In fact, while you are rinsing the grout cleaner, you will also be rinsing the entire tile surface and we found that this wiping also cleaned the overall tile surface

This grout cleaner/whitener worked perfectly for our tile floors and dirty grout. It was very simple to use! I vacuumed the floor first to remove loose debris, then applied the cleaner to the grout and allowed it to sit for 30-60 seconds. It started to foam and I could see white foam turning dark from loosening up the dirt. I then used a grout cleaning brush (purchased at HD as well) to briefly scrub the grout, which helped to remove the remaining dirt. I then wiped up the dirty liquid with a paper towel and rinsed it with water and a fresh towel/mop. The results were astonishing! My kitchen floors look just like new! I've also used it on our shower grout and results were similar! Don't bother with any other cleaner out there, just buy this one! Highly recommend!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This stuff is GREAT! I used to use comet or bleach and it was a stinky smelly mess that left a lot of residue behind (from anything I used that had an abrasive ingredient in it). This stuff is so easy to use with no overpowering smell. I did transfer it to a small bottle that had a long nozzle on it (recycled from a hair dye package) which made it super easy to apply a thin line to just the grout line. Left it set for about 10 minutes and then scrubbed lightly with a grout brush and dirt was gone! Just wiped down with my usual floor cleaner in a bucket with a rag and I was done. This will be my go to grout cleaner for that 2x a year job that I always procrastinated on. And the price is reasonable too!

Ultimately Comet cleanser worked way better. This also will streak tile on walls and you must reseal the grout afterwards. Not at all worth the risk. I am returning it, it's so bad.

I have white tiles with white grout in the bathrooms which was pretty much black. I poured a small amount in a little bucket and used a toothbrush to apply the cleaner and you can instantly see the results. Toothbrush worked better than the grout brush I picked up especially because I was working with small 1/8" grout lines. Its best not to pour too much in the bucket all at once because it will get dirty as you dip the brush back (unless using 2nd bucket with water to clean brush). Grout looks a little yellowish once you wash off or wipe down with wet rag but seems to whiten more as it dries off. Lots of work but definitely does the job!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best grout cleaner I've ever purchased It's very rare that I say this, but: this product is UNDERPRICED. For the price I paid for it, I expected mediocre results. I was amazed at how clean this made my grout. Use it as the label recommends and you won't be disappointed. Yes, it does require scrubbing with a brush, but not much. The acid does most of the work; you just have to use the brush to get the crud out so you can wipe it away with a sponge. As for the fumes: I'm asthmatic, but I didn't have to wear a mask. I just kept a fan blowing across the floor while I worked. Can't recommend this product enough. And, as someone else mentioned: you won't see the final results until it has completely dried.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Product With this red Alabama clay mud, a dog and 2 kids my white grout is horrible by back door and in kitchen. I guess it wasnt sealed by previous owners.I have tried so many products trying to get it to look even halfway clean. I love Zep's carpet cleaner and been using it since I tried it 10 years ago. It works wonders and use it for more than carpets. This grout cleaner did the job. Some really bad spots as it says I had to use 2-3. After time I can still notice the areas I used it on. I would definitely recommend this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked better than expected, follow instructions This product does as advertised if you follow the instructions (i.e. work in sections). The attached pic is my very small test area. Once I saw how good it worked, I decided to work in large sections to save time. I probably treated an 8x4 or more section of tiles; basically I split my kitchen into thirds. This was a mistake and I do not recommend this. Zep actually fizzes and lifts the dirt. Therefore, if you don't mop/wipe the dirt away in a timely manner it will resettled in the grout lines. So work in small sections. I recommend 2x2 or 3x3 sections. That's 4 or 9 tiles for those not good in math, lol. Also, I do recommend using a grout brush for more difficult areas.
