Customer Questions & Answers

Will this product help to remove kitchen drain odors?

Periodically, my kitchen drain starts to smell unpleasant. It's a somewhat rotten organic odor. I have tried using chemicals (sodium hydroxide, bleach) but the only thing that really works is for me to take it all apart (drain, pipes, trap) and clean it by hand. Can you tell me whether these enzymes will get rid of that kind of odor?
Asked by: MM
It would help, but ZEP also makes an garbage disposal odor remover which works very well.

If I use this type of drain build up remover will it also get rid of drain flies?

Asked by: Mark
It is recommended as PART of a Drain Fly treatment program. 1. Clean drain traps 2. Pour Boiling water down drain to soften pipe buildup 3. Use Zep Drain Buildup Remover(Enzyme/Gel) Must treat everyday for 7 days 4. Clean Drains with Drain Brush 5. Use Zep Drain Cleaner monthly 6. Use Drain fly traps(homemade see online)

Can I get a legible copy of the Directions for Use that is on the bottle?

The font is so small & difficult to read. I was hoping they would include a copy of the Directions for Use on the website.
Asked by: Anonymous
The Manufacture Web site appears to say "Instructions Coming soon." ZEP: Any help please! I cant understand why you would even put something like that on your web site. competing products have clear on line information.

64 oz. Drain Build Up Remover is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as promised You will need more than the recommended 1oz, and they're not kidding when they say wait 6 hours. I poured approximately 2 cups into a shower drain clogged with hair (long thick hair!)and only ran a small amount of water in with it. After 5 hours my tub was full of black water, I plunged the drain and everything began to drain quickly! Flushed with about 6 cups of boiling water and the drain is running perfect.

Usually every 3 years we have to pay a large bill for drain cleanout. The plumber who put the drain in didn't slant it enough hence buildup of grease and sludge. I now use Zep for maintenance. Love it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Well But Takes a While This ZEP 64 oz. Drain Care worked well but it is important to note that it is NOT a clog remover. I used this on on my wife's sink in our master bathroom. She always rinses her hair down the sink which slowly builds up and slows the drain. After running hot water for a couple of minutes, I poured 8 oz. of Drain Care down the drain, then followed that with 16 oz of hot water. It's best if you let it sit for about six hours. I let it sit the entire day while we were at work. The drain now flows with no backup at all. Drain Care works well just remember it's not for clogs but more for maintenance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well The drain plug in our shower is design such that every single strand of hair makes it down the drain. Of course this results in clogs. I've recently switched to a product that helps prevent clogs, but I still keep this product on hand for times I feel water isn't draining quite as fast as it should, not only in the showers but in our sinks as well. It does a much better job than a store brand drain cleaner I used to buy. The only downside is for it to work as designed, you have to remember to use it 3 days in a row, and you can't use the drain for 6 hours after use. It can be a slight inconvenience, but it's worth the sacrifice for clear pipes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't work, waste of money I used this product for 4 nights in a row on a slow kitchen drain and it did nothing. My problem was the black slime that builds up in the pipes and it slows the drain about every 3 years. I used a snake to clear the drain and decided to do an experiment. I scooped out some of the black slime and put it in a jar with the drain cleaner and after 24 hours nothing happened. It didn't dissolve it or break it down in any way. This product is a complete waste of money.

The kitchen sink has a long and I assume nearly level run. When it starts running slow I would have to plunge or use the bulb on a hose to really push it clear and get it flowing again. The master bath shower drain catches all the hair and slows down so I would have to pull the drain cover and clean out the massive hair ball plug. I put a cap full of the enzyme stuff down the shower drain and it dissolved the hair ball. I have to put a couple of capfuls down the kitchen drains and flush with enough water to get it into the main long line. The enzymes literally eat the biofilm, sludge, hair and other fun stuff in the drains. The trick is finding a time when you will not use the drains for several hours while the enzymes do their thing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't Work I followed direction and put the stuff down the drain every night for weeks. I still have a slow and gurgling kitchen drain. I have 2 oz left. Tonight will finish the bottle and conclude the waste of the $8.98 I spent for this stuff.
