Questions & Answers

How do I attach this reducer molding to concrete slab?

The metal strip is too narrow for the smallest concrete screw at Home Depot and the smallest concrete drill bit is 1/8, which is too big for the screw provided for the strip.
Asked by: Ryder
we used liquid nail and set bricks on it for a day and then install the molding.

When installing the vinyl multi purpose reducer molding, what's the maximum height difference allowed between rooms?

Is the track the same as the T-moulding?

We purchased the T-moulding instead of the reducer moulding, not realizing the height difference between the kitchen and living room floors until we took the carpet up today. We are laying the plank flooring tomorrow. Can we go ahead and lay the track we have from the T-moulding, and then snap this moulding in when it arrives?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hamilton Oak & Chatham Oak must be one and the same Installed the "Hamilton Oak" Allure PLUS vinyl wood-looking floor planks and needed a transition to carpeted rooms at doorways. Bought one of these "Chatham Oak" reducers to see how close of a color match it would be to my installed flooring (I was bummed there were none in store to compare in person without ordering online), and to my surprise, when it arrived it was actually labeled "Hamilton Oak" not "Chatham" (which is what I was actually looking for in the 1st place and couldn't find) and was a near perfect match...so I guess Chatham Oak & Hamilton Oak are one in the same??? FYI, installation can be a little tricky. One side (the lower looking side) sits flush with the surface you screw the metal strip/track into that the wood-looking piece snaps onto, while the other surface you are transitioning to needs to be slightly higher (if going to carpet you may want to nail down the edge under where the molding will go, just to secure it better where it will be covered). This means the other somewhat similar Zamma "T-shaped" molding I saw for sale doesn't seem to make functional sense (it has 2 high sides vs. 2 flush sides), unless the metal strip was screwed down in a gap between 2 flush surfaces. Otherwise, if the metal track is screwed on top of one of the surfaces, the T-Molding (not this item, but one I originally debated) would leave a space of a few mm under each side of the molding, slightly raised. I WISH the T-Molding item looked like the low side of this one on both sides, then it would be better for installing between 2 different surfaces of equal height and sit flush...which is what I truly needed. I am worried the high side of this strip will not securely pinch the carpet down tight enough to hold it under the transition strip (not sure if I am making sense) Time will tell with durability...but it at least it looks nice for the purpose of selling the place. I do wish it came in pieces longer than 6ft. We have a 13.5ft edge between 2 rooms and since that means there would be 3 pieces (2 seams), I'm debating trying something that comes in at least 8ft lengths (to only have 1 seam) or purchasing more of these online. PHOTOS: Metal track was installed on edge of vinyl planks for both (when I uploaded the photos it might have switch the order, so check captions) 1) low/flush side on vinyl & high side on carpet (looks good, but doesn't pinch carpet down as much as I'd like since the subfloor under carpet & padding is 3/8" lower than the vinyl...should have nailed edge of carpet down under where the strip goes to be safe.) 2) shows strip reversed, with lower/flush side on carpet and higher "T" side one vinyl side (while the carpet side is better held/pinched down, unfortunately, it leaves a gap right under the strip on the vinyl side--which drives me crazy since it will collect crud). This is the photo with the tools in the background. Once again, I wish there was a T-shaped pieces where both sides were FLUSH, not higher. This piece left me compromising one side. In my case I couldn't put the metal strip on the subfloor the carpet was on since the high side wasn't high enough for the 3/8" difference.
