Customer Questions & Answers

Will Stair Nose or Cap a tread fit my stairs?

I have stairs that are 35.5" Wide x 10.5" Deep x 1.5" Thick. They also stick out about 1-2" from the riser. Will this nose work in my scenario? I'm not quite certain as of what to do. I already purchased the bead board for the riser that I will cut and glue in place, as well as the standard laminate planks. What do I need to do to make this work?
Asked by: BigTom
This particular stair nose comes 94" in length. You have to cut it to size. It will be quite expensive looking at your posted photos. My stairs looked the same way. We decided just to recarpet them with some fancier carpet and I put a piece of this stair nose at the stop of the stairs.

does this bullnose piece snap into edge of a standard saratoga hickory floor plank I want to use as my stair tread, in combination with this bullnose

Asked by: handymandan
No. It has the same appearance as a T- Mold. It is also installed the same as a T-mold with the track. It overlaps the floor plank.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Nosing This is great nose molding. Unfortunate that a user gave it such a low rating. This is not cap a tread! It is meant to replace your existing nose. If you don't understand that you need to cut down your existing tread in order to install this, don't buy it. When installed correctly it looks awesome!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NIce piece, matched our floors perfectly We just put down some Traffic Master Saratoga Hickory floors and needed a stair molding for our top stair. Hardest part of hhe install was squaring off the rounded nose of the board at the top of the stairs yo work with the molding. Once that was done, it was simple install. My only issue is that the molding was damaged in shipping since it is such a long piece and easily bends. Luckily I had plenty of material to spare. Overall, it was a nice product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product and easy to install This flooring is amazingly tough and forgiving, and so is the stair nose. The installation is easy to understand and get done right. Just make sure you measure it carefully because they are on the spendy side if you make a wrong cut. Also, don't put the molding into the track until you're absolutely sure it's where you want it. It will not come back out of the track without damaging it. Great product though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Installed easily and looks pretty good I ordered this and several other trim pieces to finish out a room. While I would not recommend the quarter round or base more, the stair nose was actual pretty good. It was easy to install and ended up giving a nice clean look. The veneer also seemed much more robust and accurate to the flooring it was designed to match. The install when quickly. We have a larger open raised floor section so I needed 3 of these to cover the step up. I was able to mate them quick easily and the cuts for the scarf joints were clean. The only issue was if you look very closely you can see a faint light line as you look at the joints where the side of the veneer is showing. It's not enough to be noticeable to the average visitor but something I notice as I installed it. Would a wood stair noise be better? Absolutely, but then you have to spend the time and effort to color match your stains and cut the relief for the expansion joint for the flooring. We'll see how this holds up, but I'm generally pleased after the install.
