Answer:
An AC-powered low impedance fence charger, such as this model, is recommended for poultry. A charger that generates at least 5,000 volts is sufficient to simultaneously contain poultry and deter predators. The pulsating of the unit allows the animal to release from the fence.

Answer:
This energizer is only designed to work with AC power. We would not recommend altering it to use DC. We do have DC powered energizers available that are designed to work with an external battery.

Answer:
To deter nuisance pests, we would recommend a minimum of 1000-2000 volts on a fence line. For this small amount of fencing, a 2 mile or 5 mile energizer would be suitable.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bought 4 Zarebas... All Dead All four Zarebas died, one after 5 months, one after 10 months, one at 13 months and the last at 15 months. Zareba replaced one under warranty and it died 4 months later. July 10, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great fence charger Instullation was easy, with no problems have used for about a month so far and the pigs have learned to respect the fence and are not trying to escape. March 24, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Retired escape artist! ! I spent HUNDREDS of dollars trying to figure out a way to keep my 7 month old lab in our fenced back yard! She would dig under and escape..i tried shock collars, chicken wire under the fence, she even chewed that. .. but the hot wire is working! ! :) couldn't be happier! ! She visited her old escape route a few times but now doesn't even look at it! ! So glad I was able to easily install it myself! ! August 5, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PEACE OF MIND I bought this fencer for my horse pasture. The pasture is approximately 1.5 acres, divided into three sections. I am using half inch poly tape fence, connected to 8' fiberglass step in posts. The 10 mile fencer is probably overkill, but it is strong enough to send a good charge through multiple splices and fence jumper wires. I am very pleased with it. July 8, 2014
