Price difference

I saw the Zenith 21" W Mirrored medicine cabinet with wicker baskets in white at my local Home Depot yesterday for $129, wondering why in Espresso it is listed at $299 online. That seems like and excessive price increase for a color change.
Asked by: Anonymous
Possibly because espresso is popular color at the moment. Right now the espresso cabinet appears to retail for $183.00, a few weeks ago it was $249.00. I guess the price adjusts with the reviews people write about this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than expected After seeing the previous reviews I was very apprenhensive about ordering this, but was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It was in perfect condition - no dings or loses - & my handyman was able to install it in about 10 minutes. I didn't find the baskets as objectionable as others have. They seem useful & if they fell apart someday one could still use the shelves. Overall, it looks good & does the trick.

I should have listened to the earlier reviews that said that the cabinets were crushed and in poor condition. We ordered two and one had a corner that was completely crushed even though the outer packaging did not seem to be damaged. The other one had many scratches on it as well. The quality of the product is very poor!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but not great Instructions are overly simple. Started with "mount to wall" with zero additional information as to how, or hardware. Color is misleading. Espresso is really almost black. Baskets are cheaply made and lightweight quality, but not important overall.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good storage space, cheap appearance I got this medicine cabinet to add some extra storage space in our master bathroom. It's the perfect width for fitting into a toilet nook. I like the espresso color, and the beveled mirror and the molding helps make it appear a little bit more high end than it actually is. When I ordered it, the product description said the cabinet, door, and shelves were made of wood. I figured for the price point that it was made of MDF with a wood veneer, but I couldn't really tell from the pictures online. I got a bit of a surprise when it arrived though. The cabinet and shelves are made of cheap particle board with a contact paper coating. The cabinet door is made of MDF with a matte melamine coating that doesn't even approach looking like real wood. The only reasons I know it's not solid plastic are from where the door hinge mounts were drilled, and due to the mirror reflecting back the unfinished side of the panel when you look at it from an angle (see pictures). It's not just the Home Depot website that claims "wood construction" either - the product packaging has the same inaccurate claims. I guess the case could be made that the packaging is only stretching the truth, since particle board and MDF technically contain wood, but it's still a deception. Installation was fairly straightforward, but the screws or drywall anchors for mounting the cabinet to the wall are not included. Although the cabinet is fairly light, I'd still recommend using wood screws rather than drywall screws. The 19" width of the cabinet almost guarantees you'll only be able to hit one stud, unless you get really lucky with where you want to place it. I ended up running one screw into the stud on the top mounting board, with one EZ Anchor on the other side of the mounting board driven into the drywall. I also put an additional wood screw between shelves through the thinner cabinet backing and into the stud for a little extra security. I managed to hang the whole thing by myself without any assistance. Attaching the cabinet door and attaching the shelves is a simple process as well. If you're fairly handy, you won't even need the included instructions at all. The cabinet itself doesn't look too bad if you're standing at a normal distance away, but the laminate corners seem a bit fragile, and a few spots are already showing a little wear even though I was very careful not to damage it during installation. The cross piece above the baskets is bowed visibly upwards and interfered with the cabinet door closing until I adjusted the hinges up as high as they go. I'm a little worried the hinges will sag a bit over time and I'll be stuck with a cabinet door that's difficult to close. In fact, the door has already started sagging a bit, because when I first installed it there was a hair's width of clearance, but after one day I can already hear it rubbing when I open and close the door. So in summary, I think I was a little nitpicky with my review, but the cabinet does look fairly good once it's all installed. Just know that it's not real wood, and it has a few imperfections that I don't think are acceptable for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice look. I would recommend the Zenith medicine cabinet. It really went together in minutes after opening the box. A quality made product. Well built, with solid materials. I like the color a lot. It would fit perfect in any room. I used it in my bedroom, over my makeup desk. It has lots of storage, with two moveable shelves. Easy to install, with one bracket and two screws. The screws to attach it to the wall are the only items not included in the box. Two wicker removable baskets are a nice added touch.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed in the quality Through the years, I've purchased many Zenith products and have always been pleased with them. This medicine cabinet, however, is disappointing with its poor quality for the price. I have had some inexpensive cabinets from this company in my laundry room in the past and they have looked much better than this one does. I must have received one from a different batch than the ones that were given such praise. It arrived with multiple scratches and chips in the finish and rough edges (my current 15 year old medicine cabinet is in better shape). The parts were inside the wicker basket and when I reached inside, I got stabbed with one of the many sharp ends of wicker that stick out from the basket. This did not give me a good impression of the quality of this product. I was also not pleased with the difference in texture and color between the door and the cabinet. Assembling the mirror to the cabinet was simple, but it does take time to adjust the hinges for a perfect fit. The only thing I like about this cabinet is that the beveled mirror is nice and clear. This would be a good cabinet for extra storage somewhere, but I would not install it in my brightly-lit bathroom.
