Must it be attached to the wall?

This question is from Hartford 26.25 in. x 69 in. Space Saver in White-DISCONTINUED

I live in an apartment and was told by the management that I can drill/put nails into the walls in every room except for the bathroom due to blah blah blah they just don't want me to. If I were to leave this item freestanding, I understand that it would increase the risk of it toppling in an earthquake, etc, but will it be stable enough to stand on its own without wobbling at the slightest touch? Thanks!

Answer:
I just installed this in my bathroom and I would say that its a must to attach this to the wall. I had no intention of doing so myself until I put it together. It is made of extremely flimsy particle board and just opening the cabinet door could topple the whole thing down on your head. Good luck.

For the price and ease of assembly, I can't fault this unit. It looks lovely (as you can see in the video). It absolutely MUST be anchored to the wall (the video demonstrates why). Answer:
33-1/2" so you should order the extenders as I did. You could probably get away with the 1/2" with the unit resting on the toilet lid, but why chance it when the extenders are so great.

Answer:
Hi Almeda,
The clearance is 30.8 inches. For taller toilets like yours there are 3 inch risers available through the manufacturer for a small fee. This would then make the clearance 33.8 which should work for you. If you would like to order or have further questions, please call 800-892-3986.
Thank you for your question!

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Much better than expected. It works great in a smaller bathroom, surprisingly ample storage space, well made for this type of product and looks very nice. June 9, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Mixed review Pros: Fast shipping, reasonably easy to put together, top and doors are solid material, white is true white. This unit, once constructed, is heavier than many I've seen and owned. Cons: HUGE gap between the doors (like, a full inch gap, allowing people to look into cabinet, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a cabinet in my experience). No matter how I adjusted it, the gap will not close. Flimsy safety strap to secure unit to wall. For this price point, I expected more. I've had some that looked better when finished for far less money. June 24, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect bathroom storage This is the perfect size and gives you a lot of hidden bathroom space until those open"cubby" type of bathroom storage where everyone can see everything. I just wish it were a bit sturdier. Overall I love it but it got 4/5 stars because it's a little too wobbly for my liking. Perhaps it's my fault though and screws need to be tighter?! August 5, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great, size and fit perfectly. This was exactly what I wanted, with doors and a shelf. It fit perfectly over bathroom radiator and did not take too much space. Was easy to assemble except when the pictures were upside down and failed to mention that in the instructions. Ordering and pick up was extremely easy, order online and pay, go to the store with order number and pick up a product that isn't in the store. Customer service was friendly and helpful, they knew how to accommodate me. July 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good item for the price. Be sure to measure the heighth of your toilet! I had to call the manufacturer to get the heighth of the opening for the toilet. We had to add glides and cut out a portion of the board above the toilet to clear the toilet. The directions give you a number to call to order heighth adjusters for $25.00 (not reasonable in my opinion). I also discovered from my painter that the surface is not paintable. The directions use pictures only, some written directions would have been useful. July 3, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by looks good in ad, BUT...... cheap materials; over-priced; lousy instructions; certain screws didn't work (weren't long enuf), had to buy others; took a long time to arrive.. August 5, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Returned Returned this item. I was looking forward to this above the toilet cabinet. When assembling it split and broke apart..J U N K!!! July 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I'm happy I think for the price this storage vanity is quite nice. I found the assembly instructions to be unusually clear; assembly was well within my 70 year old capabilities. The individual pieces were well made (no off center holes, etc.) I am a reader-of-instructions though, and I think it imperative that they be followed carefully. A stud finder (for the safety attachment to the wall) will be helpful. Previous reviews warned me about the doesn't-fit-around-toilet problem, and I DID have that problem (probably it exists with any non-standard toilet) which was easily and cleverly solved by purchasing their 3" extenders. Their customer service was very friendly and helpful, and delivery was fast. A male friend said he never would have permitted (?) me to buy it because of the hinges which he said were extremely difficult to work with (they were; it took considerable effort to align the doors). Nevertheless, it's an attractive piece and I'm happy with it. January 15, 2013
