Answer:
Kate, we do not recommend using Zinsser Cover Stain for a subfloor. This product is not designed to withstand the wear and tear of foot traffic, even if applied underneath another flooring surface. Instead, use Zinsser B-I-N Primer and Sealer. This product is excellent for sealing odors and will withstand floor applications. Read More

Answer:
In most cases Cover-Stain will dry to the touch in 30 minutes and can be recoated after 1 hour. The dry primer film develops full adhesion in 7 days. Lower temperatures, higher humidity and the addition of tint will prolong the dry and cure time.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Exterior Primetr Used on front porch railings. Good coverage. Went on bumpy not as smooth as I expected. August 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great coverage Excellent coverage, but use plenty of ventilation. There is some odor with this product. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The pigmented wood sealer off the shelf No matter what what top coat you are using, this is the best exterior/interior wood sealer for general painting, that is off the shelf and, on the market today. If you need to seal interior wallboard as a surface vapor barrier, this product is the best value. Cuts in nice, rolls best with 3/8s nap or less and, dries very fast. You do require ventilation if used on the interior. It may be tinted as well.... On wall surfaces, it is best to keep a wet edge. As for sealing knot stains, it does an 80% job. Pigmented shellac is the only true knot sealer there is..... July 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by worked well! I used it on walls that had wallpaper backing and glue still and old wallpaper that I couldn't remove and it worked nicely. I applied joint compound over all of it and it adhered just fine. July 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best cover up! I am currently painting all my windows white and this paint makes the long process 10x's easier. Highly recommended. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Coverage Applied Rust oleum Primer to trailer and Zinsser primer to sides, then coated all with Rust oleum paint. All paint went on easily and gave coverage as indicated on can. Dry times also matched the can. The finish paint seemed to adhere well to the Zinsser primer. The only thing I noticed was the first few days the finish paint seemed to abrade easily, but has hardened over time. Don't recommend you put your item to use as soon as the paint dries, give a few days to harden. "Little Red" looks as good as new. Hope you like bright colors. October 18, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Thick Coverage This primer is very thick and it covers good over the stains, chips and blemishes, I have used this primer on our 45 foot boat hull and then painted over with high gloss boat paint. It looks great. I also used it on our decks and over non skid which had some chips and it filled and covered it completely. I tried not to use paint thinner at all but to keep the brush/roller going it is necessary. December 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Stuff. I purchased Kilz2 Latex to prime and seal over some wood paneling that was in the new house I purchased. The paneling bled through the Kilz2. So, I went back to Home Depot and purchased the oil based, original Kilz product and repainted, based on the advice of the Home Depot associate. That didn't work, either. So, I went back to Home Depot, again, and purchased Zinsser Cover Stain 1 gallon Oil White Interior/Exterior Primer and Sealer. It was actually cheaper and worked much better. Wasted a lot of time, energy, and money on this project. I wish the Home Depot associate had told me that the Zinsser product was superior to begin with. September 1, 2015
