Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I got 4 panels of alternating picket cedar fencing here on clearance. Then I bought a Milwaukee random orbital palm sander here, and roughed up the smooth finish with 60 & 80 grit paper. Then I primed it with this Zinsser oil primer. The Zinsser primer doesn't seem especially thick, but, it spread rather poorly with a bristle brush. I used close to a gallon on 4 panels of 4x8 with alternating pickets. Now, I just finished staining over the primer with Behr solid color waterproofing stain, also bought here. In comparison, it only took about half a gallon of the Beht stain to fully cover. I assume the primer led to the good result with the stain. Zinsser is not fun to use when you are in a hurry, but, it seems to do a good job. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Primer I use Zinsser primer after peeling wallpaper. It works great to seal the walls and old glue prior to spackling and painting. October 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great quick dry oil primer I use Cover Stain often as an under body for exterior paints and stains and holds up well. I like all the Zinseer products I've tried and recommend them to customers in need of spot primers, sealers and stain or odor covering material. The shellac based clear sealer is perfect as a sanding sealer under varnish. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than expected I used this primer on old wood garage doors. I sanded and torch/scraped the old paint. One coat of this stuff and you couldn't even see any of the burn marks in the wood. Covers great.... July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by covers great The paint is strong smelling but it's necessary for covering wood paneling. It covers well with one coat and it's a decent price. August 5, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by No blocking stains as it claims I painted a water stain and had to do it 3 times because it kept coming back. I was expecting a better product, very disappointed. December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent primer I use and feel Zinsser1 primer works best. Use it whenever I have a tough job December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Buy it before oil base paint is gone Really weathered wood or new dry wood love oil base primer. It make a strong adhesion to the wood. If you outside paint to stay you need to give wood all oil primer it needs. Get this primer before oil products are completely taken off the market. My first coat on my shed took 3.5 gallons. The wood still did not look completely covered so I did a second coat. The wood only adsorbed only 1.5 gallons. It was done. Now I to move on the paint. Do not go with cheap primer or over look the importance of priming. . If you do you will be stuck repainting your outside project in 7 years, not 20. June 30, 2015
