I've used oil based in the past and find it difficult to work with and can't find anything for clean-up in spite of what the modern cleaners claim.

I have used this on bare wood with great results. 2 coats and it's ready to go though you might get away with 1 coat. I have also used this on very dark wood where 'other' products after 5 coats still needed more primer. THAT is when i found Bullseye water based primer.2 coats and done! I was amazed and have used it ever since!

Yes. We use this primer on lots of surfaces. I would recommend using older or spare brushes to prime, and keep your nice brushes for painting. Primer is also much harder to get off the skin. But it does come off. Have fun!

Answer:
Yes, Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer and Sealer can be used over latex paint. However, if applying wallpaper, we recommend using Zinsser Shieldz Universal Wall Covering Primer. This product is ideal for use under wallpaper. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-1-gal-Shieldz-Universal-Water-Based-White-Primer-and-Sealer-Case-of-4-2501/204623738

Hi grannyp,
Yes, according to the instructions on the label, you may use this primer on all surfaces. Your wall paper won't stick because the surface is glossy. Sand the surface or use this primer.

previous homeowner just had high-end wood kitchen cabinets with original oil paint painted over with LATEX ! (with a brush)
The latex paint is already coming off on edges just by using a sponge or fingernail.

Will the Zinsser 123 primer make a neu coat of sprayed latex or oil paint adhere to the original oil paint ???

Agree with sanding, but I personally have used it to go over the oil-based wall paint, and it adhered without problems. I didn't even sand the wall prior to applying a 1-2-3.

Yes! But tho the instructions say you don't need to do much prep - like sanding - I always sand, and clean with alcohol or vinegar. Zinsser primer has excellent adhesion and bonds to surfaces quickly!

Answer:
You can use a "bridge" primer, which allows you to prime over the oil paint, and then use a water-based paint as a top coat. I wouldn't do it with the latex in the middle. I agree with the last answer. Sand off the latex first, then prime, and re-paint. I prefer 100% acrylic. NOT Latex/acrylic. Read labels or ask a knowledgable person at a paint store like Dunn Edwards for a recommendation.

Thank you for your question!
This 2-gallon of Bulls Eye 1-2-3 primer cannot be tinted because it cannot be closed securely. Without the lid being secure, it cannot be shaken and it is very likely that it will spill on the way home.
However, you can purchase 1 gallon cans of 1-2-3 and it can be tinted at the store. This primer can hold up to 2 ounces of tint. Just let the store associate know you would like it tinted and they can adjust the formula to fit in to this can. Please keep in mind that the color of the primer will more than likely be lighter than the top coat. The goal here is to help the top coat cover better, not to be the final coat.
Have a great day!
Christine

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for my old house This product was easy to apply with a brush or sprayer and sealed an old house scraped to the wood so well it took much less paint that we expected. We used 14 gallons of primer and 11 gallons of paint on a 1200 sf house. The two gallon buckets were the best option for pricing. I'm very pleased. July 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Covered water stains in one coat After Hurricane Katrina I used 6 coats of Kilz to try and remove water stains on the ceiling. The brown stains kept coming through. The man at the hardware store told me to us Bulls Eye 1-2-3 and that covered the stains immediately. Since then I have used it on all my wood priming and it covers all the knots really well.
