We are putting up new drywall and we want the satin topcoat to be a vivid color. And I know that tinting the primer helps.

Answer:
Yes, Zinsser PrimeCoat 2 can be applied under wallpaper. However, we recommend using Zinsser Shieldz Primer. This product makes hanging wallpaper easier and simplifies removal later on down the road. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-1-gal-Shieldz-Universal-Water-Based-White-Primer-and-Sealer-Case-of-4-2501/204623738

I did not apply a second coat. My first coat went on with a satisfactory result.
And only because of timing...My top coat did not get applied for several weeks after.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 22 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by we have used other brands and go back to this it does a good job of covering- we have used before and go back to this June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Economy primer This is a fast drying primer that is a nice bright white sprayed all my walls before rolling them and the paint covered great excellent sealer July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best primer for the price Brand new plaster work required two coats of primer; went on evenly and easily. We used a commercial sprayer. You cannot use a sprayer with all primers; some may require thinning. This one was perfect! Clean up could not have been easier. Paint looks amazing over this primer! May 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good for sealinf new plaster Product is thick and covers well. Helps to tint slightly so you can see where you covered. Dries quick. Easy clean up. April 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Worth the time... Scraping the popcorn is not a fun job but if you take your time and are patient to allow the ceiling to get wet the popcorn will come down easier. Now if you do this, sand, fill the few cracks you make, etc. you are still left with a stained ceiling. The Primecoat Primer & Sealer does a nice job covering most of the stain and prepping for a final coat of paint. I found the cost much less than the final paint which you would still have to double coat if you did not use primer. March 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good primer for drywall very good primer has good hold out and makes finish coat take longer to dry so it dosnt lap up April 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Does NOT cover dark colors!!!!! I bought this over Berh due to its claim to cover dark colors. I had to give 2 coats and I could still see the blood red coming thru. Had to use white paint as a 3rd coat before I could put on the light almond olor my customer wanted. Waste of $. For the extra cost and alot LESS labor buy Berh Marquee. You will not be disappointed. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by best of its kind poured easily from container and consistancy was even through out. spread and adhered easily to old dark paint. December 12, 2013
