Among all the other available stud finders in the market, this one does a better job. To get the best out of it, you need to know how to exactly use it, especially when you want to do a deep stud scan or wiring scan. When I use it casually, it results casually but when I use it as directed, it does perform better. And then couple of times I used it as directed but even then it gave false readings.
It has a nice LCD that guides you when you are at either of the stud edge and then a red light beams out when you are at the center of the stud. This stud finder is missing a belt clip and a small hole to hang it on the peg board. You will need a 9V battery to power it. Worth the cost? Debatable!

I bought this stud finder along with a pot rack because I wanted to hang it properly. The Zircon i520 showed me that there wasn't a stud for the pot rack's upper center support. It also showed some sort of metal cladding on one of the studs. Armed with that knowledge, my wife Cathy bought a precut piece of plywood from Home Depot and painted it to match the wall. I pre-drilled starter holes in the left stud to get past the metal, and then secured the plywood to the studs. I was then able to secure all three supports on the pot rack to the plywood. The result, as you can see from the picture, is stable and sturdy.
Moral of the story: spend less than fifty bucks now and save hundreds you would have spent fixing the wall later.
When I replaced an electrical switch, the Zircon MultiScanner verified that all the power was off in the 2-switch box by the kitchen sink. Saved a call to an electrician and, quite possibly, saved my life.

This item finds wood or metal studs along with any wiring but you have to set it to a particular setting before scanning a particular target. I used it in various projects in the house. I would not say that it’s been accurate every time. At times it’s dead accurate and at times it’s dead wrong. For the price that it costs, it should always be accurate. I am not sure if I should recommend it.

Indeed it's the best stud-finder I've ever owned. I actually had to take a bit to figure out, but deep scan was awesome on condo I'd gotten it for to install recessed lighting. It had suspension track holding drywall, so joists were away from drywall at least 5/8", but found them using deep scan

Simple to use and understand. Directions are short and clear. Put it on the wall, squeeze, slide, and see where the stud is as if you have X-ray vision. Have not missed a stud yet.

works well on walls. frustrating to use on ceilings especially stucco. Light stucco to be specific. The tedious need to go back and forth numerous times to find studs was a literal pain in the neck and disappointing.

I bought this scanner a while ago because I own an old 1944 home and needed to know where the studs were, as well as the knob and tube wiring! Like someone else said, I first tried it and though it was a dud! Put a 9 volt in, put it up to the wall, pushed the button, lights came on, started moving and NOTHING! I was very disappointed. Read some more reviews for this same problem and tried one solution, I switched batteries to another "new" one. Tried it all again and Voila! The word "stud" showed up (As did AC!) and I moved it to find a stud, it worked! I guess the battery I put in the first time was NOT fully new and didn't have enough juice to run this puppy properly. I reversed the Batteries and sure enough, that is what it looked like.
So far, I have found studs and metal with no problems, mounting towel bars, TV mount, speakers to the ceiling, and a few other odd and end jobs in the house. This is a great tool, and the tutorial (which comes on a CD/DVD) is also online. Watch the tutorial for some good ideas for the more advanced functions, not a bad idea to really understand the full abilities of your new toy!
