I purchased this to look for studs in the wall in an apartment made in the 50's. Well, it proved not to be realiable for the job required. It could not located a stud 50% of the time. Maybe it was the structure? Or maybe the tool? Either way it would not find the same area in the way twice in a row.
I have another stud finder at home that is 90%+ accurate, but this one is not.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jasmin This stud finder is super easy to use
Very accurate product. I used it on the wall and on the ceilings. It's very very light and glides along walls flawlessly.

A great product for the value. It is simple to use and has been very accurate in finding studs in my house. The only complaint is we bought a house out in the country and I did not check to see If it came with batteries, it does not. It takes one nine volt and I had to wait a week to use it until we could get a battery. More on the operator error part on that one though. Again outstanding product, good price, easy to slide, easy to tell where the studs are as there is a red arrow marking the exact location. I would highly recommend this product.

This thing is a total piece of junk. I tried to mount a bookshelf in my daughter's room last night... no dice. This thing couldn't find sand in a desert. I suppose that is what I get for buying a $10 stud finder so I take some of the blame myself. But for Pete's sake don't sell a product that doesn't work AT ALL. I'm sure the higher models of Zircon work fine, but I refuse to give them another dime after I wasted money on this piece of garbage. It's just too bad I bought this awhile ago and never tested it or saved my receipt.
I'll be stopping at Home Depot today and picking up a decent stud finder (made by another manufacturer). I'm usually even keeled and don't get to upset about things. I understand cheaper tools mean lower performance. But I was unaware they changed that to "cheaper tools mean NO performance."

I didn't read reviews before purchasing this product, and I wish I would have. I don't know what I expected from a 10 dollar stud sensor. The thing powered up fine with the battery but did not find any studs. I changed batteries and swept the wall at least a dozen times and nothing. I ended up returning it and purchasing a non-Zircon stud finder at Menards.

This is a great toy for kids who want to play construction. You push a button and it lights up green, making kids feel like they’re really building something.
I only wish it was labeled as a toy. I tried to use it to find studs in the wall. Boy did I feel stupid.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ThreadsInMichigan Works OK through 5/8" Drywall
A decent inexpensive stud finder. I have been using this around my house to find wood studs behind 5/8" drywall. Performance of this device is a little inconsistent, but maybe it's just sensitive to changes in how fast I sweep it across the wall. I usually have to sweep it over an area 5-10 times and I can start to get an idea of where the stud is.
I've never used a more expensive stud finder, so I'm not sure if this is typical performance for stud finders or not.
