STC in a carpeted condo

What would the total STC of a 500-600 sq ft area be that has this product, under a carpet pad & carpeting? The subfloor is concrete, in a top unit condo. Does double layering this product substantially increase its sound proofing capabilities? I'm considering having this product installed under my existing carpet to reduce the sound of my downstairs neighbor's loud TV and want to make sure it can make a noticeable improvement in my situation before I consider purchasing.
Asked by: Mischa
To DB Sound Control - but the description says "dB-4looring is a cost-effective subfloor application that is easy to install with any style flooring—carpet, hardwood, vinyl and ceramic tile. Install dB-4looring and dampen both impact and airborne sound throughout homes, offices, apartments and condos." But your comment seems to contradict that? Can you please explain?

NO LONGER AVAILABLE is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Great to see this product is back!! I used this in my daughter's room 12 months ago - I added to the floor, and I also used this on the wall between her room and the master bedroom (sandwiched between the sheet rock). As far as the wall, I cannot hear any anything (voices or TV) between our rooms, but if I knock on the wall, you can hear a muffled knock. I ran out of this product on a portion of the floor, so a part of her room does not have this - I used a barrier with carpet underlayment as the installers were waiting. Even so, it's much, much quieter than before. This has a rubberized backing with a felt lining, and it is thick and HEAVY - it's almost too heavy for one person to pick up, which tells me this is high quality because of the thick rubber. They don't tell you this, but I would say to ensure the maximum sound proofing, get some sound muffler calk tubes to seal where the edges meet, and then add the tape. I have heard of some folks adding a second layer diagonally to get almost complete quietness....i'm seriously thinking of doing when get hardwood installed upstairs. The only down side is you need to order this product and make sure you have enough, and they should provide the calk or something to seal the edges....I could not find this product anywhere other than HD's website.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good price for Mass Loaded Vinyl Best price for Sound proofing, Using it on walls and celling . 1st Roxul in between studs, 2nd 1/2" plywood, 3rd Db acoustic underlayment "mass loaded vinyl" 4th 5/8" sheet rock 5th GreenGlue 6th 5/8 sheet rock. Hopefully this does the trick for my music studio. Product is heavy and you need roofing nails with the round plastic spacers to install and pvc tape for seams .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Acoustic floor underlayment This underlayment is the very best I have seen. Well worth the special order, shipped free to our house. Rolled out easy and very heavy! Which in turn makes a great sound muffler! We are very happy we went the extra $$ to get this. Well worth the money!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from does not work under carpet I got this hoping it would reduce airborne noise coming from neighbors downstairs. I was looking for something inexpensive and easy to install since I live in an apartment. The installation could've been easier except I had to move all my furniture out of my room. Now I feel like it wasn't worth it. There is no difference in the noise level coming thru. I can still hear their mumbling voices and their TV. Wish I could return it, but of course I had to cut it in order to install it. Even if I could, I'm not moving my furniture again. feeling extremely disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heavy, good material This stuff is HEAVY but for sound absorption, that is a good thing. It can be a bit of a challenge putting on walls for one person, but that should be of no surprise. Use nails, not screws. I was expecting it to be quicker, but it seems to work good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install. Does the job. Easily unrolls and lays flat. A 13 by 15 foot room was laid out in 10 minutes. Price is reasonable for what it does. Recommended.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from somewhat effective but expensive We had ours installed by a flooring contractor in our second level apartment. There was a noticeable difference but it's not soundproof. I would use it again if the product wasn't so expensive. 75 cents per square foot is too expensive for what it does.
