I had an older one ten years ago or so and missed it so! Went through an upright every couple years they do not work. First go round with new Roomba had to empty dust bin four times, it was amazing how much the other vac left behind. Saves me an hour every week being tied to a vac, well worth the money.

I've heard mixed reviews about these little "robots" and had seen one up close when they first came out years ago and wasn't very impressed, so when I had a chance to try it myself I was excited at the prospect. To set the stage: I have a small beagle; I tried this downstairs only on a mixed hard wood, carpet, and linoleum floor; I have a sectional couch, a console for the TV, an island in the kitche, a kitchen table in the area I wanted cleaned; there is also a hallway that leads to another carpeted room with bookshelves and small couches. I charged this up until the "Clean" button lit up green, set the base against the wall as indicated in the instructions, then pressed clean.
The first thing I noticed is that this thing doesn't clean quickly at all. It moved slowly in an almost random fashion sometimes hitting a wall or furnature then bouncing away from it at a different angle. It would also sometimes follow the furnature or wall but it wasn't clear why it would or wouldn't. I liked that when it found a dirty patch the indicator would light up and it would spin in a circle cleaning it. But even then when it came out of the spin it set off in a new direction instead of continuing on the path it was going. To summarize: this thing just didn't follow any recognizable pattern in mapping out the room and cleaning. I read the manual again and it does say that the Roomba doesn't clean like any other vacuum and tried to explain that it would do these odd mapping excersizes then clean the floor. So I let it go.
Then it went down the hallway. I thought it would continue to map the other room and come back. It cleaned that other, smaller, more square shaped room as well as I've ever seen, but it never did find its way back to the main room to finish there. I let it go until the charge light lit up and I saw it going over and again the same spots. I then picked it up and set it down in the main room facing the charging station to watch the docking process. It found the dock, started towards it then veered away for a minute, before finally, slowly making its way to the dock and powering off.
Here are my conclusions: 1) I'm going to have to use the invisible wall and trap the Roomba in the main room if I want it to stay there and actually clean it because it can't handle hallways and gets lost. 2) It is slower than just pulling out the vacuum and cleaning myself. 3) It does clean well. It picked up a ton of lint and dirt and the room down the hall looks great. 4) Watching the floor get cleaned is frustrating as heck so next time I'm going to hit clean and walk away.
A good clean by a robot that gets lost that takes a lot of time. Three stars until the robot gets smarter with mapping.

I am amazed by this product. The only downside is a bit noisy on the hardwood floors, but not bad. Docks itself when running out of battery, keeps up with the hair and we have 2 dogs and a cat, all three who shed year 'round, a lot! Thank you for this product!

I love the roomba! I have about five of them. I had three dogs now I have two and they would be on everyday! It's amazing what it picks up. I have tried others the Neto and the bob sweep! Nothing absolutely nothing compares!
