Answer:
It senses a large drop. I have a sunken living room and when it's above level it won't fall. To get it down I have to pick it up and move it. It also includes a part that stops it from going where you don't want it to.

Answer:
Yes, in Lighthouse mode, the Virtual Wall Lighthouse helps Roomba navigate
around your home and allows Roomba to clean room-to-room. Roomba
will clean the room it starts in, navigate to the next room, and then clean
the second room. When Roomba has completed cleaning, it will use the
Lighthouse to navigate back to the Home Base for recharging.

Roomba 650 Robotic Vacuum is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 430.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow... Did I say Wow? Bought the iRobot 650 for my wife (she asked for it... trust me, I learned my lesson a long time ago about buying a vacuum as a gift). She (and I) love it. Not to mention the cool factor, this thing works great. We thought we had a pretty clean house, but it's amazing how much cat hair Roomba picks up that our house vac missed. Will be interested to see what the life of the Roomba will be. Named it "Rosie" in honor of George and Judy Jetson's robotic maid. Who'da thunk it?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from NOT quality Equipment I have loved my Roomba BUT after 2 years it needs to be replaced according to them. It is disappointing since 1 year ago it was replaced because of a similar problem (side brush not working). Why is it that quality of workmanship does not exist for these machines? They are costly enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I had no idea My son gave me our Roomba vacuum for my birthday. I thought it was needless, until I tried it. Everyday it gathered up unspeakable amounts of cat hair, dust and dirt. How could the house be this dirty when I vacuumed weekly with my German vacuum? Day after day, week after week it got up shocking amounts of cat hair and dirt. It became my favorite appliance, and I named her "Mrs. MacGegror" because I always wanted a Scottish housecleaner. I move Mrs McGregor to a different level of the house every day, and she works diligently, without complaint. I still use my super German vacuum one a week, but the Roomba has been a God-send, especially in the hot humid summer when the shedding from our two cat is at it's peak. The house is cleaner than it's ever been.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes All the Difference Purchased this a few weeks ago and has been a huge time saver! Cleans my one bedroom apartment, rolling over tile, hardwood and carpet with ease. Before, I struggled keeping up with the dog hair. Now my apartment has never been cleaner!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works surprisingly well This review updates my review from May 2015. Yes, Ruby still works well. Ruby frequently gets caught under a chair, a futon or a chest, all of which have areas which are lower than about 3.5 ". Chairs and table legs are a challenge sometimes, particularly the dining room table with the chairs pushed up under the table. Another virtual wall might help in room to room navigation. Yes, you do have to keep charging and headset cords out of the way. Having said what some may view as very negative, we continue to be surprised how much dirt Ruby manages to find day after day.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Had the Roomba for about 2 years now, mixed review I've had the Roomba 650 for about two years now. I had no idea when I purchased it that it would take constant -- I mean like after every use -- cleaning. If you don't want to spend $100s on replacement parts, you really need to get the brushes and everything clean all the time. I didn't realize I'd have to be a slave to this Mr. Robot to keep it working. If I wanted to put that much work into cleaning, I would have used my regular vacuum and performed the easy canister cleaning instead with the regular maintenance. I do feel that the Roomba design is a great idea, but the aforesaid cleaning issue. The fact that the bin comes out during regular cleaning all the time catching on furniture, it gets lost. Sometimes it does a whole room, sometimes the whole house, never consistent. It regularly does not get back on the charger. I have a small home, this seems to make it harder for it to clean. It bumps on everything darn thing and makes a tremendous racket. It's really good for everything cleaning, but doesn't really pick up the pet hair as I had hoped. In sum, I should be less lazy and get out my regular vacuum. I bought this to save time and money with a housekeeper, but have to spend far too much time getting my hands dirty cleaning this darn thing that gets off track, lost, bin falls out, etc., to make it worth the cost of the unit and the new replacement parts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't know what I would do without it! I bought a 650 4years ago. I am totally Pleased with the way it cleans. I have 2 dogs and one of them sheds fur like crazy. My 650 has Never let me down. We have hard wood floors throughout the house and a few area rugs, it works amazing. Sad to say that the plastic gears for the side brush just stripped out. I could not find parts available. I have purchased an 880 and can't wait for it to arrive! Hopefully I will be as pleased with it as with my 650. I do recommend these to everyone i know! Great product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from If I could give a 0 rating, I would. I bought this unit about 2 months ago. The first time I used it, it ended up with a few scratches. The next time, I followed it around and still ended up with scratches(not only on the sides but also on the top) and getting stuck. I have a tiny apartment and it keeps navigating around without cleaning half of the space and runs out of battery. I contacted iRobot and sent them a video of its functioning. They sent me a couple of bumper stickers to try. I patiently tried them only to find them come off half way through their first use and the unit ended up with more scratches. Now it has numerous scratches and navigates poorly and cleans very little. It seems like there is no sensor on the top to stop it from moving under low clearance objects and it ends up getting stuck and this causes scratches on the top. I have to baby sit it which defeats the purpose of buying one. It was a complete waste of my time, energy and money.
