Well, about a week after I wrote my first review I checked the sump pump and the pit was almost overflowing with water. The pump refused to work at all. So I took it to the local store and exchanged it for a Ridgid model 500 for $30 more and the new one works just fine. The pump normally only works once or twice a week (if that). The water softener and air conditioner are all that's hooked up to it and we never have water in our basement so it's not like the pump is overworked. I've lived in this house for 37 years and replaced several pumps over the years. The Ridgid brand seems to work the best. I'm VERY disappointed with the Flotec brand. This was the first and will definitely be the last. Now I see why the store doesn't stock this pump.

I live in Ohio and it's been a pretty wet spring and summer this year. I've had this pump for at least 5 years and installed it myself. My pump had been going off consistently every 2 minutes for over 3 months. At first I didn't pay it any attention because of the amount of rain we were having but later realized that more was going on than just rain. As we had a dry spell of 4 or 5 days I noticed the pump still coming on consistently every 2 minutes. I finally thought something was wrong. As it turns out the waterline from the curb to the water meter in my basement had a leak in it right at the foundation of my home where the waterline entered my house. Water was gushing in to the basin and filling it up every 2 minutes. It took a few weeks before we had the money to have a plummer fix the problem and a couple more weeks before they actually came out. Meanwhile the pump was constantly pumping every 2 minutes for probably 4 to 5 months before the problem was fixed. The pump, It never quit pumping water or my finished basement would have been flooded. This pump did not burn out even with the number of times it had to pump water every hour. I bought another pump because I just knew it was a matter of time before my existing pump stopped working but it never quit. I am sooo thankful for this pump. It was kind of pricey but I would have paid a lot more if my basement had blooded. Good job on this one Flotec

I installed the pump as soon as it came in. This replaces a Ridgid Brand pump that had lasted for years. It was easy to install and fired right up, pumping the sump pit dry within a couple of minutes. It's a couple inches shorter than the old one so I don't think it's quite touching the bottom of the pit but no complaints so far. I had to order it on-line because it's not stocked in any of the stores (just the more expensive Ridgid Brand pumps or the cheaper Flotec pumps). I know they can't stock everything but this one seems like a 'no brainer'. Oh well.

Motor failed after 10 months, just froze. Pit overflowed but luckily the floor sensor alarm went off . Replaced quickly with another 1/3 hp, not the SS model. Later pulled the motor off which was frozen but the pedestal pump itself spun freely. The pump that failed was put in because the previous one was there for some time and thought it would be best to replace before it failed.

Stainless-steel column was too short, barely cleared the sump cover, which made the cord too short to reach the floor-joist outlet.
