Couldn't get any contractor interested in building a 10x10 shed so started looking into do-it-yourself options. Settled on the Berkley 10x10 kit from Home Depot. Ordering was simple and it was promptly delivered to my home. Driver helped unpack bundle into my garage since his lift wasn't big enough to easily lower it to the ground.
Day two I inventoried all parts and pieces. One full sheet of OSB arrived damaged. HD quickly replaced it and didn't even require return of damaged sheet. Note: instructions call for 10 full length 2x4x96 (part TP) but only 6 arrived. In fact only 6 are required for the 10x10 shed. Started project on day three and it took me about 10 days to finish including roof shingles. I spent a total of about 45 hours on the project. My wife spent about an additional 12 hours painting. A sprayer would speed this up tremendously. We still need to second coat.
My shed was built on an existing 10x10 cement foundation. Instructions tell how to lay down 10 foot square 2x4's of treated lumber. Make sure to square up the foundation before anchoring. (And yes, the Pythagorean Theorem turns out to be useful after all.)
Pay particular attention to squaring up walls and follow all instructions closely. There are some 1" screws used from the back of the doors to hold on trim. These will extend through the trim. Kit included some 3/4" screws to replace the 1" ones, but you have to open a plastic bag and read the insert to know they are to replace the existing ones.
Some of the trim required minor cuts for good flush finish.
I chose not to include additional trim to door and above the door to avoid extra nail holes and leak sources, and to minimize caulking and painting.
Instructions call for 2 tubes of caulk and 5 shingle bundles...I think I used 4 or 5 tubes of caulk but I probably got carried away and used where not required. And I had only a few scraps of shingle remaining. 5 bundles cuts it very close.
I added a 3 foot loft across back of shed for light items. All in all this is a very sturdy shed and I believe a good value for the money. I would highly recommend the shed.

- Arrived on time
- Lumber quality was good
- Everything was cut precisely
- Instructions were detailed. I had to look at the drawings very carefully though.
- The door was almost completely pre built
The not so good:
- 2- 3 pieces of lumber were bent. Made it a little harder to get the wall frame right. I managed to use them in the not so visible areas.
- Shingles are not included
I built in on my own and I haven't had any significant prior experience. I worked on my around 8 - 10 hours a week. Took me 1 month to finish it. This included leveling the site and laying the floor down.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Scotty Solid product, easy installation for someone with experience.
Shipping was a hassle. Initial: one guy, 10' 1600# pallet, only a 6' drop gate. Refused for safety. Subsequent: 8' drop gate only, but with two guys, they broke down pallet and unloaded piece by piece. OK. Shorted 8 21" 2x4s, but went to local store and had no problem getting replacements. Some pieces naturally warped, but able to clamp them to straighten. This is where experience is essential. Even with frugal use, 5 bundles of shingles weren't enough-one panel short; and to make matters worse, local store does NOT sell one panel. Almost went to Loew's, but problem was resolved in house. Took 2 1/2 days to build, but solid. Time spent versus money spent, might consider having a company build.
