Nice concept but this x-large is way too large and the medium much to small! My whole family including my husband, kids dogs and I can fit thru this door.. That just makes us feel to unsafe.. Our yard is pretty private but still it's like leaving the door unlocked for someone to come right in.. Also they do not send near enough cushioning to go around item to keep out bugs or air... Would have had to gone to buy much much more.. We returned item... I do not understand why they don't make size large also

I love having a door for my Cocker Spaniel, and had one in the wall of my previous home. Since my new home was more suitable for this patio panel, I chose this. I had to order the tall version since my doors are oversized - be sure to measure yours first!
Although the door is attractive and convenient, it has NO LOCKING MECHANISM! There is no way to lock your patio door to the patio panel and prevent someone outside from opening it. I had to rig it myself, but managed to figure out a safe and secure solution:
I bought two white window sash locks from Home Depot, drilled starter holes at the top and bottom of both the panel and door, and used 1/2" self-tapping screws to fasten the lock to the two parts. They are very discreet and secure, so I'm comfortable that the door won't be broken into. I also had my alarm company relocate the door alarm contact onto the panel, so if the door is opened, the alarm sounds.
I'm not at all worried about someone or some other animal coming in through this door. There is the lockout panel, which is very handy and stable.
Overall, I'd recommend this door - there aren't really any others out there that are different, better or cheaper - but be sure to plan to add the locks.
You can order it from Ideal with a "key lock" already installed, but I don't think this option is available from Home Depot - or that it's any better than the window locks.

I purchased this xtra large patio door as I have different size animals. I had ordered the same size door from a different company which worked fine. I needed a taller door but the same size pet opening. The actual pet door is much higher from the ground, and we also have a step down from the slider. The medium size animals cannot reach the opening of the pet door, so it doesn't work for all of my animals. I was surprised as my first order from another company didn't have the height issue that this pet door has. It will work great if you have all your animals the same height and they need to be tall!

Functionally for letting the dog in and out it works well. The X-large size works well for my tall 90lb lab. From a human comfort standpoint it is awful. It's like putting a hole in your wall to let the winter wind blow thru. The glass is single pane not double glazed, the adhesive flap that is supposed to seal off the air between the two doors fell off after a few days use; the piece of foam that was supposed to seal off the gap between the sliding door and the dog door insert was shorter than the door length which seems like an idiotic oversight. There is no way this product was tested in a cold climate. Buy only if you live somewhere very temperate.

Good quality door.
Caution with vinly doors, this does not compress beyond 93 1.4. inches, so you nee to measure the lip of the door, not just the space you want the insert to fit into.
I had to take the door to a metal fabrication shop and have then cut it down an inch, an additional $40.
