The good, the inverteror power feature. Cooks more evenly.
The bad, powerlevel is selected by holding down the touchpad until it scrolls down to the selected power level. This takes longer especially if you have to start over because you missed your target, and in my opionion (which means nothing because I'm only a consumer) causes unneccessary wear to the touchpad.
The ugly, the powerlevel began to scroll on its own. (Sometimes in the middle of the night, the beeping sound waking up everyone in the house) Now the touchpad is dead and the microwave inoperable in any mode. Less than 18 months old. Normal everyday use.
Panasonic is following the path of other classic brands by cheaping out on their previous quality and disappointing consumers.

never buy again without an extended wty. Why would a latch only last 14 months when the claim is a a unit lasts 10 years?

We LOVE this microwave. We ordered it online and held our breath. We never buy anything without seeing it in person. It's been far better than anything I've ever seen! Lots of features, not an annoying sound in it, and an easy way to change microwave power.
If you are wary of ordering this online having never seen it in person, know that you will not be disappointed. It's not terribly expensive but great value.

I bought this in mid March 2011- day one the error sign popped up H97 H 98- I played with it-- it started working- it was slow for a powerful microwave but I was so glad to finally get one after a defect with a door in another one from online had to be sent back- the month before- WARNING do not buy this in AR unless you are glued to return dates or can drive your microwave to northern AR (where only a certified panasonic dealer works) or ship it out of state at your expense- they're giant and heavy- you won't read this in the fine print- wish I never bought it- thought the store thats at my door step would replace it- 10 days after 3 month warranty it just stopped- boom no slow - just stopped working like on a timer- do yourself a favor and buy elsewhere unless you like hassle or waiting- also check to see if the brand you buy is fixable at the store if you bought it online- little use- boom didn't work. A major headache - as panasonic is very limited on repair places also something they don't tell you- cost more to ship it-than rebuy it- + they want you to call about it as they don't like to correspond with you by email except to get you to call them. My fourth microwave in the same amount of years- I wonder if they buy seconds?
