Rated 2 out of 5Â by Mash Bright white light as long as it lasts
I bought half a dozen bulbs for an area that was dimly lit. The light is bright. However, several of the bulbs died within months, life was closer to an incandescent light.
Upon closer examination, it appears that there was manufacturing fault in the way the bulbs were assembled. I have noticed uneven manufacturing quality across Ecosmart line of CFL.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by Phreddy Excellent light but will be dead within a year!
The EcoSmart R40 Flood Light bulb is economically priced and performs well while it is working. The bulb warms up fast and gives bright light. I use it for recessed lighting in my kitchen. However, it will NOT last anywhere near the life expectancy of 7-years at 3 hours/day. I just had two blow out almost exactly 1 year after purchase and they replaced the bulbs that failed after a year but were installed when I bought my new house. I don't use my kitchen lights for more than 3 hrs a day in fact it is much less on average. They are covered by a limited warranty so I'll have to see whether it will be honored. As long as the warranty of 7-years is honored they will be worth it. Otherwise, steer clear.

I have an unheated building that use to have sodium lights running down the middle about 15' high. During the winter these take about ten minutes to reach full brightness and use a lot of power. I upgraded to florescent flood bulbs a few years ago when these first came out. They were not as bright and took just as long to warm up but did use a lot less power. One of those just burned out so I replaced it with this newer one. This new bulb warms up much faster and makes a brighter and whiter light without using any more power.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by OpsMgr Very Poor Quality!!
About 1 year ago, we bought more than 50 of these to put in our office facility. On average they are turned on for about 12 hours on 4 days of the week. That adds up to about 2,500 hours in one year. They are supposed to last 8,000 hours. We had at least 8 of them break within the last month! This week alone, 2 of 4 in my office died. Will never buy any of these again!!
(The actual light output is great. But that does not matter much if they don't last.)
