Read the description carefully before you purchase this item. I bought 1 as a test for a rental property as the basement windows are a security risk. I knew these were meant more as a safety item but bought them in the hopes that they would be sturdy enough to be used for security and if nothing else be a deterrent. After installing it I was quite happy with the results. They are indeed sturdy and I have purchased and installed 3 more. The screws that come with the item are terrible so plan on getting new ones and make sure they are long enough to anchor the bars well. I am confident these will act as a deterrent to all but really committed thieves that really want something in the property. You would have to really kick at these and make quite a racket to dismount them to get in. The hinge feature is nice even though the windows I installed them for are not egress I can still open them easily.

I was able to install 3 of these guards in an hour. I purchased different screws for my installation inside the house. I did this because I may need to remove them at some point. An exterior installation would require the tamper proof screws supplied with the guards. Remember to buy your locks.

Window Guards are fairly easy to install, but I would not use the install screws supplied. They are difficult to drive and driver slips in the screw slots. Would use Star or Torx screws instead. Guards seem to be fairly substantial and make it much more difficult to get into basement windows. Wish Guards came in white.
