I bought this to go horizontally in my toddler's closet. It was easy to put together ( I am 8 months pregnant and put it together myself), directions were easy enough, all parts were there. No chips in the piece. Although you do have to be careful, I did chip a part of it when I was hammering but not big enough to tell. The only downfall is that the screws that hold the piece together have these white covers that you can put over it so you aren't looking at screws..... don't cover the screw all the way. So it sticks up. I tried hammering it and it just won't lay flat. But for me it was not that big of a deal.

We needed extra storage for our little boys room and this did the job perfectly. We were pleased with the sturdiness and the felt we got a good value for what we paid.

This replaced some old cabinets in a very small kitchen and not only was it easy to put together, with the cloth, brightly colored, drawers it adds color and function to my kitchen that I did not have before.

I agree that it was easy to assemble and the instructions were fine. One particle board shelf broke easily while putting the finishing screw in. Then another broke wiithin 15 minutes of moving to my daughters bedroom 2 shelves broke. I had read reviews to be gentle but this was a little much. I am disappointed as was looking for a small size shelf to just hold a few books and stuffed animals. I understand that this was inexpensive but I thought it would last a little longer than 30 minutes

I knew when purchasing this unit, it was going to be very poor quality. It is flimsy press board similar to what you'd get if you purchased a Walmart book shelf. There's no style to it without molding, it's just very thin and plain (however I could see that in store, so I knew what I was buying).
My biggest issue with this is that the screws do not sink into the wood so the screw that supports the middle board and is on the base of the unit causes it to rock from side to side. I remedied this by purchasing felt pads that raised the shelf up somewhat. As other reviewers have said, the screw caps are a joke and are pointless to use so there will be a screw sticking up in shiny silver. I will probably paint the screws to match the white of the shelf, but it is something to be aware of that they stick out quite a bit.
I purchased this because I needed a smaller, inexpensive storage unit quickly but I don't see it lasting a long while with much use or with any objects that have weight to them. I also can't see it working for many decor types as an actual piece of furniture because of the poor quality and design. The back has no laminate coating (all press board) and sticks to the curtains I have behind it terribly.
