I picked this up from the local HD because the forks looked solid and it had a good heft to it.
I can confirm that the forks themselves are holding up nicely, but everything else not so much.
My first problem occurred when I pulled the D-handle right off the top of the shaft. No problem, I just slid it back on and anchored it with a screw.
As I continued double digging my garden plot the wooden shaft snapped.
For this to be a quality tool, either the fork needs to extend deeper into the shaft and the metal reinforcement sleeve needs to be made much more substantial.

This plastic D Handle on this fork has become very loose aft just two uses. As a homeowner with a small garden, I am disappointed.
The plastic on the handle seems up to the task, but the rivet used to secure the D-handle to the shaft is undersized and allows the handle to twist significantly. I'll likely need to replace the rivet with a screw, not a big deal, but why should I after just two uses?
I would have preferred, and paid more, for a metal handle, but HD did not offer that option. Seems like they want me to buy tools that will last a season or two, rather than a life-time.

I had the fork 1 week. The first weekend, was the backyard, very light work and the tool worked perfectly. Next weekend was the front yard, where there's a tree by the street curb. The fork got stuck in one of the tree roots, and when I tried pulling it out, the fork stayed, and the handle came out with no breaks or cracks. There was no re-inforcement, but to buy a $30 tool that can't handle any resistance is ridiculous to me.
Ames needs to reinforce their tools better. a simple screw would have probably sufficed, but would have easily broken the handle.
Thankfully, Home Depot saw the tool and allowed me to return the item. I am not looking for a new fork online, preferably online since HD only carries 1 type and brand.

I needed to break up some soil for a garden and this really helped. Only issue I have is that the rivet that holds the handle in place became loose so now the handle turns on it a little bit when you try to use it. I don't have the receipt and I have used it so I don't plan on returning it. It did last till I got the job done. I recommend this for small jobs, weekend warrior jobs.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Maggier Cheap construction does not last
I've only used the tool once and it doesn't look like it will last many more jobs. The handle is plastic and is held on with a single screw. As I used it and twisted it the plastic around the screw started stretching and cracking. I believe the handle will come off on next use. I guess that is what I get for buying the cheapest fork.
