The telescopic magnet works good. Picks up the nails and screws, steel fragments, and so on pretty good. You should use a piece of aluminum or hard plastic to scrape off your pickings so you don't stick your fingers with any sharp pointy things.
I like the idea you don't have to bend over to use it, just extend the stick and make your picks.
Oh, my grandsons like it to for 'treasure hunting' in the yard.

I'm a contractor and bought this to pick up nails. Total waste of money! It may pick up nails on smooth hard floors but anywhere else it's junk. If it does grab a nail the next nail, blade of grass, piece of wood, etc, etc will knock that nail off and you will have to go over the same area repeatedly just to get one nail. If you're retired and have all week to pick up nails then go for it otherwise steer clear!

Bought this to pick up nails after a roofing job. It works well, running it over the grass, only raked one nail off in the process, easy to go back and get it. Is best to collect nails off the head as soon as they 'click' on so you don't rake them off. The head tilts back and forth, perpendicular angle does not change..., so that I walked with it at my side, head level with the ground just touching the grass. I would make one change- that is to have the head also tilt on the other axis so that it would be easy to wave in front of you and the head remain lever with the ground. Might be possible to bend the handle slightly but that would be something you probably couldn't undo if it didn't turn out right. But the price is right. Picked up over 40 nails after the roofing guys had already been over it.
