Rated 5 out of 5Â by tbom Useful tool, I'm happy with it.
I read the other reviews. And, it does give an instantaneous reading of volts, amps, watts, frequency (Hz), volt-amps, and power factor. It's under 'measurement display' in the operating manual. It's only made for 120v appliances, hence the small plug on the front. It cannot check anything running off of a 240v circuit, like dryers and hot water heaters. Common sense tells you to dry more than one t-shirt at a time, and clean lint out of the vent to maximize efficiency. With water heaters, shorten your showers and use a timer if you are gone all day. It has a maximum power rating of 15 amps, so don't try to use it for big drills or large vacuums. That type of stuff you buy because you want powerful tools for the job, not to save power. One item I tried it on was my dehumidifier. I found that it used almost as much power (watts) with the fan on high, as it did on low. Most of the power is used by the compressor, not the blower fan. So, with this meter, I now know it is better for me to use it on high and turn it off, than to let it run all of the time on low. After running the device for a day or two, it calculated how much per day it cost to run it. It also showed how much for a week, month and year. But unless you are going to run something the same way every day, the long term calculations aren't necessary, but still available. It's a nice tool, priced reasonably. It will show you how much power your items use when they are not being used. When my computer was off, my power strip was using 25 watts still, because the printer, scanner and hard drives were sitting idle. Just like leaving a ceiling fan or light on in an empty room, it all adds up. This will show you how much. If you use your new knowledge this provides, and turn things off more when you leave, it will pay for itself and a lot more.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by TomSlick EZ Does The Math ($) For You
This unit is a must for people who want to easily measure energy usage and to determine the actual costs of individual household devices. I added a 6 ft. grounded extension cord for better flexibility and setup. Programming is straightforward and has easy up/down adjustments. The Meter remembers the entries, which negates the need to re-enter the KWH rate each time you plug it in. EZ Meter calculates and projects (in real time) the cost of continued use of the device, displayed in per Hour, Day, Week, Month, and Year. This will settle those arguments with your spouse about the electrical costs of that lamp, computer, TV, or phone charger. The EZ Meter has a maximum rating of 15 amps.

This product does exactly what it is supposed to do. This "EZ" version allows you to input your kW cost ($0.11/kW for Middle TN) and it will show you the cost per year, month, day, and hour or operation. I would give it a few days of operation to let the calculations settle down before reviewing the yearly and monthly costs. It lets me know exactly what device in my house is sucking all the electricity when they are "off". It doesn't forget your settings when you unplug it either. SO when you move it to another outlet, just reset the values or continue monitoring.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Sarah Vital for any house with an electric bill too high!
This product was so fun to use! I had a lot of fun going around the house for a few days to see what was driving our electric bill so high. It's so easy to plug in and program for use. It gives energy use in hours, days, and month (assuming it's on all the time, you need to keep it plugged in for longer if it's an appliance that goes off/on like a refrigerator) and converts it into dollars to make it easier to understand total impact. Pays for itself with energy savings in the long run.

I have so many electronic components that have me wondering how much it is costing me to operate and this meter has given me all the answers! For the past couple of months I have been testing pretty much everything in my house that is plugged in to 110 to see where my money is going when paying my electric bill and have discovered some major surprises. I understand electronics very well and though I had a good understanding of what, in my house, was using the most electricity and this meter provided all of the answers I needed. I would recommend this product to everyone if you are interested in being better educated on what to do to reduce energy consumption.
