Its wine-red foliage and dense, compact habit makes it an wonderful choice for a specimen, the border, a hedge, or as erosion control, but be sure to place it close by so that its pinkish-white flowers in late spring can be enjoyed. Ninebark is a deciduous shrub providing winter interest with its exfoliating bark, which peels in strips to reveal several layers of light brown inner bark.
