I had the transformer for about 2 years.
I wanted to have one transformer to drive all my low voltage lights.
I had wanted a system that I could have turn on and off multiple times in a day. That is a standard feature with mechanical clock transformers so I thought the electronic unit would do that and more. I wanted to turn on the lights between 7pm till 11pm and then again at 5am till 7am. This unit cannot do any of that, there is no way to have the unit turn on and off multiple times. So I ended up attaching a outdoor timer to the unit while selecting photocell control on the transformer.
The unit quit working a few weeks ago. Malibu website does not show the transformer and there does not seem to be any support. I opened it up and found that a gecko was able to get inside grow a bit and then got fried, taking out a circuit board.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by POPSELECTRIC Good Design, 2 x 300 Watts on purpose
It is 2 -300watt transformers, and not 1 -600watt transformer, for a reason. YOU CAN NOT PUT 600 WATTS OF POWER ON 1- #12 WIRE, or even worse #14 WIRE!!! 600 Watts divided by 12Volts = 50 Amps. #12 wire is only good up to 25 amps and #14 wire is only good up to 20amps. 300 watts divided by 12Volts = 25amps. Which is why it is 2 x 300Watts, you could not safely put more than 300Watts on one circuit. You don't ever want to max out the circuit either. So even on the 300 watt transformer you should not put the full 300 watts on there. 240 Watts would be 80% which would be ideal, this also limits your amps to 20amps. Therefore, this product is designed with safety in mind, which is why I would highly recommend it.

The transformer is an easy one to use. Basically you just need to mount it and plug it in. I mounted mine to the side of the house using the screws that came in the box. I replaced the anchors that came in the box with my own that have a lip around them to prevent them from sliding inside the wall. The transformer has several settings to determine how often and how long the lights come on. The transformer comes with a photo eye to "tell" the transformer when it is dark and light outside. The eye is connected to a long line so you can position the eye wherever you want. I set my transformer to Auto and the lights turn on and off at the perfect time. The transformer comes with two connections so you can run two separate lines. The transformer is a bit bulky and heavy but looks like a black mailbox.
Tips: Have someone help you mount the transformer because it is a little hard to slide the transformer onto the mounting screws.
Fill the holes with caulk before inserting the anchors and put caulk around the screws to make a water tight seal.

Not really 600 watts, it's basically two 300 watt transformers in one. While that's annoying, I can live with it. What I can't live with is it only functioned for 3 months, then it died.

This transformer is perfect for what it is intended to do. Run two 300 watt runs of lights. This is clearly stated that it is 2 x 300 with timers!! Perfect for front and back set ups, or different sides of your house, or different types of lighting applications where you want to have two runs. I am running my standard garden lighting on one, and rope accent lighting around my porch ceiling on the other. Perfect because I don't have to run the same wire all over creation.
