This works great for adding the required texture. It can get a little messy because of the large holes in the roller, but that is to be expected given the rough texture.
I'm not sure about the reviews stating that the roller wears down. I've had really good luck with mine. I've used this brush to texture real concrete and it made it through 4000lbs of concrete okay, plus an additional 4 planter boxes done with the restore paint after that (and my roller is still fine). I do wash it after every use.
I think the key is to reducing the little splashes is to put on a heavy coat of the restore with a paint brush, then just lightly roll over the area with the roller for the desired texture.

Soaked up product. Wasted a gallon of Restore. Went back to Home Depot to buy another gallon and a 4 inch brush. Was told that the roller should only be used if you want a textured surface. Uses a lot more product than a brush. Finished covering 3x's the area with 1 gallon of Restore, using a paint brush! Which also is easier to get into cracks and crevices.

Bought 3 of these just in case. One coat of Restore on a 16 X 32 deck. Used all three, they just kept falling apart. Will be using a regular paint roller for second coat.

You will only get one use out of this, but that was fine given the cost. You won't have to clean it up then either.
