As advertised, the receiver was designed to fit inside the bracket of the Hampton Bay fans we own and the fans did not need to come down to make the installation. (installed into 52" Gazebo II) It was very easy and the instructions were very clear. The cradle for the remote is not very strong and does not hold the remote securely if you push the buttons while it is sitting in it. It does hold it secure as a storage place when not in use. However, the purpose of the remote is not having to get to a wall to turn on and of the fan in the first place so I see no problem there. To solve the common problems of turning off the wall switch to the fan and not adding extra holes in the wall for the cradle (yet still having the cradle to give a place to store the remote when you leave the room) I made a minor modification to the cradle. The picture shows this small modification. It was done using a utility knife to accommodate the switch. The plastic was soft enough to simply push the blade through. The mounting hole lines up with the wall plate screw. This took away the eyesore of another thing on the wall and secured the wall switch in the on position to prevent accidentally turning it off.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Rick Do Not Use with CFL Bulbs
The package has a handheld transmitter and a receiver that is installed in the fan/lamp. I originally had the receiver portion installed in the ceiling fixture in Sept 2013. In July 2014 it stopped working the light but it did still work for the fan. I had the Home Depot contractor return and install a new receiver I had purchased -- exactly the same package as I had bought from Home Depot a year ago. This installer said to use LED or incandescent bulbs -- CFLs don't last with a remote. The package doesn't say no CFLs and the HD Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan/Lamp box comes with CFLs and doesn't say they won't work with a remote. It's been working fine for a month now.

Rated 2 out of 5Â by Slinger Ceiling fan remote needs downsizing
Appeared to be be just what I was looking for in a remote. HD associate said this would work with the fan being purchased at the same time. Got home and mounted the fan, connected the remote (noticed the packaging had been previously opened) only to find out the wired unit doesn't fit inside the ceiling housing. must have been the same reason previous purchaser returned the opened product. Wired control box could and should be a smaller size to fit in ANY housing. Save your self a lot of time (and money) and make sure the unit will fit in your fan's ceiling housing before you leave the store.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by onesparky23 Very nice remotes.
I didn't like the fans I bought but I did like the remotes. My wife likes to use her hammock in the carport so I bought 2 fans and 2 remotes that I mounted in the hallway above the light switches. That was a desirable location since it was indoors and there is a wall light that she can turn on if she forgets the button placement. The remotes were very simple to program and install. The main thing other than setting the DIP switches was to make sure the fan motor was set to high speed with the pullchain and that the light was turned on with the pullchain before installation. I cut the pullchains to a much shorter length to prevent people from reaching up and pulling them. The remotes are very good to have. It saves a lot of wear and tear on the pullswitches.

Very simple to install. Put in the battery and good-to-go. Same size and shape as the original remote, just white instead of black. Would happily buy again.
