Rated 5 out of 5Â by Sebastian AMERICAN STANDARD TROPIC 1-PIECE ELONGATED TOILET.
This American Standard Tropic toilet is not just a toilet but rather the American âLuxuryâ Standard, a beautiful piece of art, which enhances the beauty of a home.
Its high efficiency performance with 1.28 gallons per flush is amazing.
The One-piece design with concealed trap way is more pleasing to the mind, than the conventional 2 piece toilet.
This toilet has so many great features.
It uses less water (1.28gpf), but the siphon action technology of American Standard makes it more efficient and so, no clogging; thus it meets the EPA Water Sense criteria.
The toilet has Ever Clean Surface, and the Power wash technology compliments it, making it always looks clean. (I love it: less cleaning.)
The height of the toilet is very comfortable: 16-½ from the floor to rim, plus the seat height. I can sit there and relax. This is the real âRest Roomâ!
The installation of the toilet was easier than I thought. It took about a one man hour.
I did not have to buy a separate seat, since a Duroplast slow closing seat was included in the pack. The new technology installation of the seat also was very easy. It looks very pretty, and the slow closing feature is very pleasing.(no more banging sound) It can be easily removed, if needed, for cleaning, with the push of a button, located in the middle, under side of the seat (Quick disconnects). The toilet tank dumps the water to the bowl in less than a second, which is the brain behind the high performance. The refilling of the tank is very quiet.
Overall, it is a very nice piece of décor, and most useful thing in the house. I love it very much, with its beauty and performance; so I give it a 5 star appreciation!

I know it's a very functional part of your home, and I'll be the first to admit I'm a function over fashion type of person, but this is a very good looking toilet. We previously had a one piece toilet that looked okay, but performed terribly. So far this is the best of both worlds, it looks great and has worked flawlessly. The soft close lid is a big plus and the way the seat is mounted is really clever too. Installation was fairly straight forward but you'll want to make sure you check your water line location and the clearance between the tank and your wall. I lucked out and everything lined up perfect, but I could see a scenario where the water line from the wall would need to be shortened if it interfered with the base. (see picture) Overall I'm very pleased with this item and it was a perfect addition to our bathroom remodel.

This 1-piece toilet is nice in that the tank is integrated with the bowl, but it does demand a wider than normal base which can lead to some installation issues.
The design of the toilet assumes that the water supply line comes out of the wall, but here in the Northeast, most supply lines come out of the floor. If your water supply line comes out of the floor you may have to move the supply line further away if comes out of the floor less than 8 inches from the centerline. This is dictated by the width the base of the toilet at the back. See image of rear of toilet.
We had to move our supply line and I was not too excited by the thought of having to have to call a plumber to move our supply line 3â further away. I decided to do it myself and looked at compression fittings and found out about the wonderful Sharkbite range of fittings available at HD. Using 3â of PEX, a ½â connector and a ½â to â
â toilet supply valve, I was easily able to install a new supply line and remove the old one that was in the way of the new toilet.
Being one piece means it is also somewhat heavier than a 2-piece bowl so it is advisable to have help when positioning the bowl on the bolts and drain.
Since the toilet has a wide base, the bolts that hold it down are on the inside of the unit. There are two small holes provided to provide access to the bolts to add the washers and nuts, but if space to the side is limited it is rather difficult to tighten the bolts. It is impossible to get a wrench onto them. I managed to slip a long 9/16â socket onto the bolts and turn the socket with my fingers. TIP: if you have a very long ¼â drive and an adaptor to drive a long socket you can tighten the bolts through the toilet seat mounting hole above. It would be nice if American Standard supplied a cheap tool that could be used (gently) for this during installation.
Apart from the water supply line and fastening bolts, installation was easy.
The rear of the toilet is open meaning that small pets or other critters can get in there.
Small plastic covers are supplied to cover the bolt access holes on the sides. These are held in place with double sided tape. I think the idea behind the single piece design is to get rid of places where stuff can go and not be easily cleaned, but these side covers look like good places for dirt to accumulate.
The flushing and filling are very quiet.
The flush mechanism is of the flapper type.
The all important flushing works well and there has been one report in the family that a second flush was needed but it seems as potent as one can expect. If you are not doing the installation yourself this is a fine piece of vitreous china!

This toilet should be seen because it won't be heard and will otherwise go unnoticed because it does it's job very well. Good luck installing this toilet without a plumber!

I have had constant plumbing issues since receiving this toilet. Does not use enough water to flush so I have had to pull and snake 4x! Seat does not stay in place, no flange kit. lucky I received this as a promotion. Its been replaced w/ a $100.00 unit that has given us no problems.Very disappointed for an item of this cost to have so little function and as many problems.Have your plumber on speed dial.
