Rated 5 out of 5Â by 1DIYGuy A Rain Barrel Must Have
This product is an absolute must for any rain barrel. I learned that quickly after watching the top of my rain barrel get clogged with a few leaves from the eavestrough and flood over the top of the barrel. This is the best solution out there.
There's other diverter options running up to 4x the cost of this product that don't perform as well. I was skeptical at first, but after watching it work during a rainfall I am very impressed.
My only gripe is the lack of colour options and I would definitely pay more for an aluminum option. The plastic on the inside is very thin and mine was cracked when I purchased it. I installed it anyways because it doesn't affect the performance whatsoever.

Rated 2 out of 5Â by Cmass Inefficient and leaky - but cheap
These are not nearly as efficient as other devices on the market. They only catch about 50% of light water flows. If it rains heavily - which is when you really get the mother lode of water - they are completely overwhelmed and begin overflowing down the house siding and onto the foundation. I am a design/manufacturing engineer by trade and have experience in construction. I was very careful installing these to make certain the downspout was properly seated, but during heavy rains, the volume and speed of water falling down the downspout hits the outside perimeter of the device with enough force that it blows out the top and overflows. There are some simple ways they could have improved the product to better seal it against the end of the downspout. They also could have made it more efficient by simply increasing the size of the cone inside and making it diver more water.
This product needs refinement. Unfortunately, it appears typical of many of the Amerimax products I've purchased recently at Home depot (Complete gutter replacement, gutter guards, rain harvesting etc..): Nifty concepts VERY poorly executed in design and manufacturing. I am not pleased and wish Home Depot (and Lowes) would carry other alternate brands.
Having said all that, I am keeping the 4 that I have installed because even with the inefficiency, we get consistent enough rain here in Western Washington that I will have plenty of water for my needs (laundry, toilets, hot tub, shop). I will fix the overflow problem myself by sealing them into a removable section of downspout.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by SheepDog45 Typo in the manufacturer's video is embarrassing to THD employees
In the video demonstrating how to use the product, there are points with text over-laying the video. At the end of the installation section, the text reads "That's it your done." It should be "YOU'RE" not YOUR. How much did they spend to make that video? How many people proofed it and approved it?

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Hayden Makes Rain Barrel Harvest Easy
There's not enough devices available for the odd eco-friendly buyer. I mean, it's sad that something like this device isn't sold by the checkout to make it more widely known and used. That's my little rant.
Easy to install. Works surprisingly well. Filled a 275gal IBC (Industrial Bulk Container?) in 2 days.
Nice that it has a cap for when the diverter is not needed. Only wish the cap was tethered or valved to make that feature more user friendly.
Thanks, HomeDepot.com for carrying this item!

Rated 4 out of 5Â by SubaruLou Inexpensive and easy to install
This is a great, inexpensive part that allows you to collect the rain water from your gutter. It works well to fill up our 55 gallon water barrel we use to water our vegetable garden. I was skeptical at first purchase but it has proven to do a very good job at collecting the water.
